Recommendations for a guide/charter out of the Keys? Staying in Marathon, but open to all options in the area.

Brother-in-Law and I are taking our boys out while on vacation, so total of 4 folks who have no idea what we are doing!

Jake was great and put a lot of effort in to it. Fished with another dad and 2 teenagers. I've done trips to Marathon for a week the last 5 years. Feel free to ask any questions.

Greg Smith (512) 577-9592 is mainly a fly guide but does conventional too and is out of Marathon.

I just spent 5 days fishing for mature, oceanside tarpon on the fly. Well, it was in May and I owe y'all a trip report…….it was epic! Stayed and launched from marathon. Let me know if you have any questions. My second trip there so have a good feel for the island and lodging.

I can easily recommend Johnny Schrier. Tail feather guide services. (305) 709-9929

Johnny is a fantastic guide. He runs a skiff for fly trips but has a big boat for spin/bait/family trips. He will put you on fish for sure. But his life story is what makes time on the water with him so great. He grew up on Curasal (spelling?) and speaks 4 languages. Family ran a fish capturing service and so he's got amazing stories of harvesting and transporting exotic fish. He's a free diving spear fisherman and will flat out work his butt off for you. He's a legit waterman, knows his stuff. His rates are very fair. Not sure if you can get him this close to your trip, but worth a shot.

It's "been a minute" but Capt. Jeff Shelar did a great job of getting us on the fish in fairly rough conditions. We waited out rough water all week and finally went on Friday. We had 4-6 foot seas with occasionally 6-8 foot seas. Five of us went out, but only my BIL (left below) and I fished because the boat was rocking and pitching constantly. The Capt. said at one point he was looking up at the crest of a wave from the flying bridge praying that it wouldn't break over the boat (it didn't).

Capt. Jeff is right there in Marathon Key and highly recommended.

I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Thank you all for the recommendations. My nephew, who's a Junior in Engineering at A&M, is interning with a firm in West Palm Beach. So, we decided to take a family trip to go see him and visit S Florida at the same time.

It's been a few years, but we had a great experience with Last Cast Charters out of Cudjoe Key.
