How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lost my lab a few years ago and looking to get another dog.

I'm looking for primarily a good family dog who is eventually very chill once out of puppy stage (although that's very specific to the dog and not even close to guaranteed). Any suggestions on a good breeder to look into? I'm open to the type of breed as I realize there's no perfect breed and that even if there was all dog's have their own personalities anyways.

I've never purchased from a breeder before as my previous lab was a friend who's dog had a surprise litter so I'm not all that sure what I'm getting into regarding breeders. If it even exists, added bonus if there are options where the dog might already come trained with basic obedience, leash walking, ability to bring a dove back to me, etc.

Do your due diligence of research on any dog or breeder.
Ask for references of owners and check on the health guarantees.
Be patient and enjoy your journey to find your new companion and friend.

You don't need a breeder. Almost no one needs a breeder. Breeders should be….well, Nevermind, we'll leave it at that. You need a good rescue pup. There are tons. What part of the state are you in? We work with a lot of rescues.

Rescue dogs seem to know you helped them and are so loyal and appreciative of what you give them.

I only regret that I didn't figure this out sooner. I adopted my first rescue dog when I was in my 40s, and he was the best dog I've ever had.

We highly recommend Belle's Buds in Brookshire and Charming Pets Rescue in Boerne. We have fostered, volunteered, and rescued with both. Sadly, there have been purebred labs surrendered to our local shelters that we volunteer with too. You just have to follow their Facebook pages, websites, etc. or even call them to be notified when a specific type of dog shows up.

You might also want to look into Austin Pets Alive and Heart of Texas Lab Rescue. We haven't personally worked with either of them, but they have saved some from our little country shelters, seem to be great, and are more central Texas. Most rescues really try to make sure it's a good fit, do meet and greets, or even a foster to adopt type situation.

Otherwise, you can get on Facebook and search for an area or specific breed rescue, or you can get on Petfinder.com and put in your age/size/breed/location criteria, and it will link you with the shelter or rescue for that specific dog.

Sadly, there are so many awesome pups out there, and many are purebred if not close to being purebred too.

If you would like anymore help, please don't hesitate. I'll ask my wife to keep her eyes out too.

Brazos. Thanks for what you and your wife do for the dogs.

Best Retrievers in Giddings does a Second Chance program where they go get shelter dogs, bring them to the kennel, and train them in basic obedience and if they're a retriever breed, they will do a little foundation work for them with that, too. I have no affiliation, just follow them on socials since we play the same games.

If you want a bada$$ field bred golden retriever, holler at me.

We have a couple of yellow male labs that will be ready to go home July 19th. Parents are fully health tested. Amazing pedigree and parents have great temperaments.
