Howdy, have a good friend that worked at Orvis in Houston for many years. His favorite story about Fly Fishing Fashion is right after the movie 'A River Runs Through It' came out. That movie turned the fly fishing industry around, forget what they called it in the 'trade'. Anywho, so he was overrun with young wives buying the husbands/boyfriends fly fishing stuff. Guess what the best selling item was, not rods, not reels, wait for it .... CREELS! And movies do not have any impact???

Fly rod sales increased by 30% the year after A River Runs Through It was released and never went back down to pre-movie level. It honestly was what allowed me to become a full time fly fishing guide

I had people show up with a creel on their hip for strictly catch and release trips wearing a replica of Brad Pitt's hat.
