We are heading up there in July. I always hit the Blue River. I've had success at the headwaters as well as the tailwaters around the big reservoir. I plan to hit my favorite spots again.

I'd like to venture out to some other places this time though. Thoughts on some other good rivers/streams within an hour drive or so?

Eleven Mile Canyon - about an hour and 15 minutes from Breckenridge.

It's beautiful and plenty of great access.

We saw some fly anglers pull some solid fish out of there. We caught several smaller ones on our Zebcos and rooster tails.

I'd still like to see somebody pull some of those mysis shrimp slurping footballs out below Dillon Dam...

There is an app called Trout Routes that put us on some fish last summer. Free seven-day trial. We fished a few spots based on the app and what the fly shop recommended.

Eleven Mile Canyon is terrible! It's ugly and there are no fish! Stay away! (JK, that's where I fish a lot but I hate the crowds ).

You have some good options near Breck. Blue River is very popular. I'd suggest going by Mountain Angler or Breckenridge Outfitters. Get your license, buy some flies and they will be more than happy to give you some recommendations. One of the main guys at Mountain Angler is from Ft Worth and he told me about a spot up near Kremling called Pump House or something like that. It's on the CO river and much closer than Eleven Mile. I haven't fished there but maybe some others have.

You could also check out the Dream Stream which is between Spinney Mountain and Eleven Mile lakes.

HWY 9 Fishing access just south of Kremmling on the mighty Colorado. We stopped here on the way to fish the Blue below Dillon. We were the only ones there midweek. Caught several rainbows and got broke off twice after a long fight.

It mostly deeper water so you have to do some deep nymphing.,,,but there are giants there.

Driving back to Texas right now from the area. We camped in Eleven Mile Canyon and fished the canyon, Spinney, Dream Stream, and a couple other places around the area. Tough to beat. Most of our success came from a caddis fly.

That brown is from the Yampa river but that's a little far for you from Breck. Those rainbows are from some spring fed creeks in Carbondale. That might be close enough if you are interested. Those pics are from a few days ago.
