With all that top notch habitat around Seguin and all the way from there to Mexico, I'm shocked they aren't overrun with them! It was probably running with a black panther.

LOL. House cat. Or, at the most, juvenile mountain lion.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Anybody describing a "large cat" and jaguarundi in the same discussion has no idea what they are talking about. They are more likely to be mistaken for an otter than a large cat.

That reminds me, after all these years I took a pic of a black panther in Ft. Worth the other day.

My guess in term of likelihood:
1. Large House Cat
2. Regular House Cat
3. Juvenile Bobcat
4. Bobcat
5. Mangy Racoon

100. Juvenile Mountain Lion

1000. Jaguarundi
1001. An actual Chupacabra

Please be careful. It's dangerous out there with a big cat on the loose

Apparently San Marcos had a mountain lion sighting a week or two ago that put the town in a high speed wobble.

But alas, news cycles run short these days. A new smoke shop had a grand opening so the big cat is long forgotten.

I can see San Marco legitimately having a mountain lion though

You can find cougars in just about any college town for a party school.

24 hour check in. No jagarundi. Saw the homeless guy that wanders down town. He was sitting on the bench in front of the court building with his grocery cart and one shoe and sock off. He was picking the foot sans shoe and sock. A couple of meth heads. 3 young adult girls with eyebrows drawn on their faces in an impossible shape and a pit bull mix.

I'm still alive.

Glad to hear you survived!

Random but related not to Seguin - have you been to the burnt bean? I think I'm going next week and heard it's good.

Slow news day. I'm disappointed the zoologist they interviewed didn't give an unequivocal "absolutely no way" in their reply, which should have been in there somewhere.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

I went to the Burnt Bean a couple of weeks ago for the first time.

I think we got there about 1030 and the line was significant already. We got to the front of the line a little before noon. They were already out of all-beef sausage and one other item i wouldn't have bought anyway at that point.

Got brisket, ribs and turkey. The brisket had great texture, but surprisingly little flavor. Not much flavor from spices despite it having a decent bark, and not a whole lot of smokiness, either. Not sure if that's their standard, or maybe it was just that particular brisket.

The ribs were very good, and were my favorite overall.

The turkey was also very good, but it's just hard to get excited over turkey, no matter how good.

Green beans were okay, their bacon ranch taters were very good, and their hot cheeto queso mac was good.

It was interesting overall visit, but I wouldn't go back to stand in an hour line. If I was passing by and they were open with no line, I'd gladly stop in for another taste of whatever they had available.

We get Burnt Bean pretty regularly. I know the owner from when he used to work where I do. Good guy.

Take this for what it is worth. My opinion is that when it comes to top barbecue, at some point it comes down to what you like. They have some of the best q consistantly. It easily is the best q around - including anything you can get in Lockhart. I would definitely say it is worth standing in line for... once. After you try it, then you can decide whether or not it is worth it a second time. Also, once again my opinion, I disagree with Tx AG 88. I believe you let your cooking do the talking and a little salt and pepper is all you need. Not picking a fight with 88, just my opinion.

If you happen to be there on a Thursday, try their pork steak.

Once again, just my opinion, it might be the best brisket I have ever eaten that was store bought. I know a few people that can really cook. I'd like to think I have made a good brisket many times. However, I give Burnt Bean props on their consistency on quality. Yah, we might nail a great brisket once a year and usually cook a dang good one, but I know I couldn't match their consistency with their quanity. So their worst brisket is better than most restraunts best brisket and their best brisket has to be in the running for the best brisket I ever bought. You might disagree and it just might be my preference. BBQ is funny that way.

Don't feel like you were picking a fight. Diff'rent strokes, and all.

But the portion of brisket we got on that day NEEDED salt and pepper. It seemed like it had no seasoning at all. The beef was obviously high quality (Prime, with the tenderness and mouth feel that impies) but there just wasn't much flavor. Every brisket turns out different, so this one may have been an anomaly.

I make briskets in my back yard on occasion, and when I serve them to guests, I do put barbecue sauce out, but I really don't expect (or hope) that they'll use it. I never put bbq sauce on brisket when I eat it, but I did pour some on my "plate" (butcher paper, which I appreciate), and used it, that day at Burnt Bean. I hated to insult the cook, but some seasoning was absolutely needed.

Good chance the zoologist did say that and it was left out of the story.

Unless a jaguarundi was serving BBQ at the Burnt Bean, take it to the BBQ thread!

Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately most bbq places now that aren't a chain and are worth their salt, seem to come with a 30min+ wait nowadays. I'm okay with that so long as the BBQ is worth it. I'll report back on my findings but hope I don't regret not going got 2M in San Antonio instead.

I didn't want to get my head bashed in here by posting about the 'Jaguarundi' or whatever the hell I saw around dusk last night while cruising our place in the RTV, but think I might have solved the mystery.

Mid-sized critter, +/- 20 pounds with brownish, thicker looking coat. It had a mid-length tail on it, a little bushy and was damn sure not a dog, cat, coon OR Aoudad. It slipped back into the brush around 40 yards in front of me and of course my wife didn't see it. I'm thinking it could be an otter and would have traveled a mile or two from the Guadalupe River. Per google they stray from the rivers now and then to eat. We're north and west of Victoria, Tx around 20 miles.

The only problem with the otter theory is the bushy haircoat and tail, whereas an otter would be more slick.

I'm curious now and even though the chance would be slim for it to hang around I might put a couple of cameras up. What could I leave there for bait? What do otters or jaguarundi's like to eat?

If I did happen to capture a jag on camera after "none in Texas for 40 years" what would I win?

This is funny. Daughter, class of '12 lives in San Antonio and caught this on news. She had done a research paper on Jagurandi back in Junior or high school, and thus laughed at the whole thing.
