Property has several fence rows that have become overgrown. Fences are in good shape overall, but the Yaupon & brush/vines/briar and other has invaded over the previous owners declining health.

Remedy + diesel still the best way to go?

What's best method for removal of the dead trees/brush etc afterwards? Burning? Machete?

Fence is mostly old cedar post with an occasional T post mixed in.

Only if you can do basal and not get it on the leaves because you'll just defoliate it

Go 2% remedy + 2% surmount foliar with mso/organosilicone surfactant and spray the leaves

I will 2nd what Tex Aggie said. I have used the Remedy/Surmount mix because I had small cedars mixed in.
However, I used a Danuser Intimidator tree/brush puller on my skid steer after I sprayed, to pull the dead stuff out of the fence. It will grab brush, vines, whatever, and you can ease the dead stuff out without tearing up your fence.
You don't want to burn it if your wire is decent as the heat will ruin the wire or burn the galvanizing off of it causing it to rust.
If you have a skid steer, you can usually rent the Danuser puller or rent the skid steer and the puller together.
I have also used a brush cutter blade on a larger weed eater to cut the brush/ vines, saplings from out of the fence after spraying. Just depends how much brush/trees you got as to which works best….. brush blade or puller.
That's all I got.
Be safe spraying the Surmount.

Streamline basal and keep it off the wires.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really

I'd remedy/ diesel basal it on foot. With a long wand you can usually get in to the base of everything pretty well. Plan should be to hit it more than once. You just wont get it all on the first pass.

How much fence are we talking though? That's going to make a difference on best approach. It may require a big sprayer to just drive along and foliar it all. Then come back and basal spray the tough stuff by hand.

Fire will mess up the wire. Every time I've tried to pull brush out of a fence, it ends up tangled in the wire and wrecking it. Personally, I'd kill it and let it rot. Just tell your wife not to look that direction. If it's very big stuff, removing it might be more work than starting fresh.

Its a couple hundred yards, which is why I'm hesitant to start manually.

We do have plans to eventually tear it out - (5-10 years. I think in wife years thats probably in 5-10 months).

Good idea on the brush/tree puller. Its a pretty old fence, probably pre-dates the internet, so I'm not too attached to it, just would like to clean up the good ones.

If you're a LOLpoor like me, I'd start cutting it at ground with chainsaw/clippers and then using a sprayer/spray bottle to immediately apply Remedy&diesel to the cut stump. And load up the truck bed or your buggy to haul the refuse to a burn pile.

Second the let it rot where it stands method. Year or so later it breaks easily sparing your fence.

Forgot to ask. What type of fence is it. Net wire or multi strand barb/smooth wire??
If Net wire do the trees/saplings grow through it?

Second this, especially for vines and briars. That stuff doesn't have enough leaf on it for foliar treatment, but streamline basal on soft stems is deadly. Also recommend just leaving it and letting it rot. People want to remove it too early, and end up breaking it off at the ground, only to see it sprout back because the plant wasn't completely dead. Let the cows/deer/pigs rub against it and knock it over once it's dead.

Old barbed wire. Got a couple 6" diameter trees that have become fence posts running through it, but mostly brushy/viney things and yaupon.

My thought was to kill it and let it sit for a while, then spray again.

I'm kind of surprised no one has fabbed up an tool offset for a skid steer where you could run your mulcher a 1/2 track offset.

The application I used the Danuser tree puller was on 5 strand barb wire. I could reach under the bottom strand and grab what I needed then tilt it forward and back out pulling the trees and brush under it. I was careful and did not hurt my fence.
There are a couple of companies that build an offset rotary cutter.

https://www.tractorhouse.com/listing/for-sale/233273439/2024-hardee-brush-tiger-35-rotary-mowers-hay-and-forage-equipment

The Hardie can be tilted up or laid flat.

DR Builds this and you can put a brush cutting blade on it. My neighbor had one and let me borrow it. Worked pretty well but ground gotta be flat. https://www.drpower.com/Power-Equipment/Trimmer-Mowers/Tow-Behind-Trimmer-Mowers/DR-3-Point-Hitch-Trimmer-Mower/p/TT130003PN?gsa=true&ctm_id=TT130003PN&src=AW1CA86XE4263309&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20958096447&gbraid=0AAAAAD_wqmQrYElRdT36XaEq65JVGPz_N

I had lots of small trees, saplings and small cedars. 2" or so. The spraying killed them dead as a doornail but it looked like crap. They did not rot fast. Cedar skeletons were there forever.
So from then on I pulled and cut the stuff, cleared it out, then did my spraying on the little stumps to prevent regrowth.

I would think a shear might be able to cut growth above top wire and then between each strand.

Maybe one of the ones with longer blades? …….that sure might work. I tried using my tree terminator but it's so dam big I couldn't maneuver it around the post and wires.
But you sure might be on to something…. I know they make smaller capacity ones that have long blades on them and look like a big pair of scissors…….and you could more easily reach over and under.
You are going to make me spend more money now for a new attachment.

If you have 6" diameter trees in your fence line and they have rough bark, basal treatment won't work on them. You're going to have to do a foliar treatment or stump treatment. Basal treatment works on smooth bark only.

I'm always looking for the quicker method. I just used tractor bucket to severe at ground level after a dry and rot period. Have nothing that got so big as to be a threat to damage if they fell.
I also don't know how I feel about basal treatment although my NOL swears by it. I like foliage method from my Polaris and hope to not have to stop for very long. Time is precious to me.
Glad o could be of service requiring another toy to experiment with.
