We had small birds like finches or the size of them that would camp out just under the overhang of our back porch and poop in the same spots and make a mess. I hung reflective streamers in several locations under the overhang and it helped quite a bit but not totally. What's something I can use to make it where they won't come in at all. They laugh at an owl decoy lol but I was thinking of spraying bird repellant but does that work? Or is there anything else I can do to keep them out permanently? Thanks.

I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Tear down the nest they are building every day for 10 days they will split

They don't build a nest, they just rest on the overhangs or my tv set in the corner and usually fly out when I come out the door.

If you figure it out let me know.

I put bird spikes on everything… and they built nests between the layers of spikes.

You need to encourage larger birds to come in.

Haint blue ceiling paint and spikes works for us.

If that doesn't work you could introduce snakes. Or a cat. Our cat loves to hunt birds.

Can you just spray them with a jet nozzle or something on a water hose?
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

I had woodpeckers working on decorative timbers on porch. I went to Dollar General and bought 3-4 rubber snakes and stapled them close. Woodpeckers left.

If you wrap tin foil on the overhang, they will go away. 100% worked for me.

Maybe try one of those fake owls.

. Yes those little bastages keep rebuilding mud nest at my mom's house. I've washed them away with a water hose and they start rebuilding the same day. Annoying little turds

We live in the country. We have learned there will always be birds and wildlife. One of the reasons we live in the country. I'd rather have the birds than bugs.

They like to relax on the ledge above my overhead doors and crap on the concrete. Read about different deterrents and ended up mixing peppermint, vinegar, and chili oil (should have used powder in retrospect) in a spray bottle with some water. Have sprayed the area twice now. Powerwashed to concrete last weekend so will see if it actually works, but all those items individually were listed as things birds avoid. So, I just made a combo.

This is the best solution we found. Before painting with haint blue, we had birds building nests every year and making a big mess. The color change made all the difference.

Had the same problem with barn swallows…hung rubber snake and owl - problem solved other than periodic what i assume are expletives being shared by the swallows who swing by to say howdy.

If they are swallows (build the mud huts) good luck. We have them and have learned to live with them. The poop piles are generally in the same spot so we put down plastic crates that come with the flowers we buy every spring. You may have to add some weight if you have wind.

On a positive note, they are spring only and will take off after 2-3 months. Also, they eat a TON of mosquitoes so I have learned to look at the glass half full. Pretty much every house in our hood has them. We have all done all the things to get rid of them (some still try) but it is useless.

A neighbor hung something like this above his front porch to combat the issue. Seemed to work well for him.

For barn swallows, paint the top 6" of wall sky blue. Will definitely work

HOA would love that one. As much as I despise HOAs, Id have to agree with them on this one. The swallows in my hood are posting up under the front porches.

We got some retractable bug/sun screens on our back porch . It was a little pricy but has been well worth it . We had multiple reasons for wanting the screens but keeping out birds and bugs was among them.

We have our ceiling on the porch painted blue. It seems to work well for birds. It was painted that was from my FIL who was told by the wife's grandfather it repels birds because thats the color it was when his grandfather painted it. Seems to works.

No trouble with birds, spirits, worms or long relatinships.

Grampa provided me with BB gin and $.05 pack of bullets. Paid me &.04/sparrow so I could buy the $.25 tube of bullets.

Yep. We shot poor sparrows all the time as kids. As I get older I regret some of that. Hell they weren't hurting anybody or anything…just a little bird trying to survive in this world.
Sure hope God forgives me for that someday….and that I was just being a country kid.

Well they are an invasive species, or some I shot were. But yea, after procuring the $.25 tube, I spent most my time at the water troughs shooting Devil Yellowjackets that would land on the water. I was 5-6 years old.
