I've got my eyes on a used pair of Swarovski CL Companion 8x30 binoculars. Trying to determine a good/fair cash price to offer. It looks like new they are around $1,400. They appear to be in like new condition.

What would I use them for?
I like the smaller size. Easier to carry around. General outdoor binocular stuff… looking at birds and wildlife. Would also use them for deer hunting in Texas. Range inside 400 yards.

I understand physics and the light gathering ability of the larger (42, 50…) objective. Assume the Swarovski glass is better than similar 8x30/32 lower quality binoculars… Would my 60 year old eyes appreciate the upgrade?

Anything I'm missing or need to consider?
Questions I should ask?

Was thinking $900 cash would be fair? Thx SW '86

i have the 10x and love them. I use them 90% of the time hunting in Brazos county. I also used them at Kyle field. I also have the regular 10x42 when I hunt in NM or CO. I also keep those in the truck in case I'm looking for hogs on the deer land or the neighbor's place (much larger pasture) to the east in Brazos county. I've used Swarovski since the late 80s. Love em. But I no idea about the price for a used pair.

I can't advise you as to what might be a fair value, but I do want to mention the following in case you didn't know.

There are two generations of CL Companions. Therefore, the value would depend greatly on which generation are the ones you are looking at.

Good question and one I don't know the answer to... But I can probably find out.

I think they are relatively new. I believe the seller has the the original box and all the paperwork.

What do I need to look for if they have the original box/paperwork?
Is there something I can tell by looking at the binocs in hand? Model number? Serial number? Thx SW '86

EDIT - Did a little looking online - It appears the CL Companion changed around 2017, correct?
The pair I'm looking at are similar to these with the "CL Companion" on the bridge. Thx SW '86

IIRC, the Swarovski website will only show the 2nd generation binos. If the ones you are contemplating do not look like the ones on the website, then they are 1st gen.. Alternatively, you can go to ebay and look at the ones being sold there. Good chance you will see both generations.
