We are going to Port A in early June for my buddy's bachelor party. The Best Man who is running things is in charge of getting all the fishing charter stuff figured out, but I just wanted to get some info on here since you guys are the experts.

I expect there will be 8-10 of us total, how much should we expect to pay for a half day trip? Nothing crazy or too serious, just inshore/bay fishing. Pop some beers and have a good time, maybe catch something to grill after.

Is there anything decent running in June? I haven't done a ton of fishing in Port A, but I can't imagine it's too much different from SE LA? I used to live in Slidell and am accustomed to the Reds and Specks running in the fall, but June was definitely not the high season. Is there much brackish water or is everything salt?

Any recommendations for a captain to reach out to? I'm just concerned that the best man is going to not do due diligence and drop multiple grand for a few hour trip, so I want to know what to expect/veto.

Thanks!

Specks and reds year round. But you will be dropping multiple grand i'd imagine, as you're going to need min 2, possible 3 boats depending on final number. Someone will be along shortly and give you a few ideas on the current guides down there who can handle this, but just didn't want you thinking this was gonna be a budget friendly option. But it can be a great time and money well spent, good luck and congrats to your buddy, i hope.

I grew up 40 miles from Port A and learned to fish there and in the surrounding bays. Then I lived in Slidell for 10 years and learned to fish the Biloxi Marsh, Hopedale, and Delacroix areas. You're not going to find anything like SELA action in the fall while fishing in South Texas, but you will catch fish - and good ones - around Port A in June. If you're after reds I would stay in the Port A - Aransas Pass area (sorry, someone else will have to supply guide names there). If you're after Specks, I would seriously consider a short drive over to Flour Bluff and hit the Laguna Madre - Baffin area. I've had some great trips with guide Rick Loveday for that run - good guy and good guide.

Oh, and the South Texas water is an order of magnitude (at least) saltier than it is in Pontchartrain, Borgne, etc. unless they've had recent heavy rains.

For a half day trip, depending on the captain, it will be at least $500 plus tip per boat, and you don't want more than 3 guys per boat, it just gets crowded unless y'all are wading. Plus, obviously everyone will need their fishing license too.

Well i will give you my pricing for comparison.
For a normal by type trip as you describe i generally charge $650 for a half day 5 hour trip for up to 3 people.
Plus $100 each additional person up to six max plus me. And yes we fish six plus me often. But I have the biggest bay boat on the coast. 26ft long 9'4" wide.
Plus $100 each additional hour.
Plus the cost of bait.

I had a house in Rockport for 25 years and guide down there numerous times a year. Im happy to set something up.
