Any idea where their fields are? Going to end up with a lot of very disappointed land owners when they are left with their land covered in junk.

No idea if them but there's a solar array just north of Pearsall on east side of hiway. I'm guessing in excess of a section to maybe section and a half. It disappears over a rise. Going to look great soon.

They are a residential solar company.

I'm not sure the exact number but no where near the full $3bn was utilized and it is a guaranty of ABS debt vs direct loan.

Underlying loans are still strong and the likely outcome is:

(1) Sunnova restructures their corporate bonds and this debt stays in place.

(2) NOVA liquidates like SunPower did last year and the servicer on the underlying guaranteed debt is changed to the backup services already existing in the structure.

This certainly doesn't come without risk of loss to the US govt as NOVA was able to get this guarantee by going to lower rated homeowners / homes in low income areas but at the end of the day it's not a huge risk vs what the DOE has done with newer tech. Best way to think about this deal is NOVA was able turn BB risk to US Govt risk on small portion of otherwise well structured debt vs. other deals where it's a real concern if the technology will work as designed and banks wouldn't touch them.

I think there is a lot of potential in solar but given the costs of panels, installation, and if there isn't a 30% government incentive, I am not sure how anyone truly has a positive return on their investment with solar panels right now. I have no idea how anyone would want to invest $40k out of pocket or even in a HELOC to see a marginal savings on their electricity bill. Even with substantial savings its probably still a 15+ years to get to break even.

Maybe I am just way off base and the return is substantially better?

The value proposition is entirely about future energy prices.

Quote:

Multiple complaints alleged that Sunnova sales representatives persuaded elderly dementia patients, some on their deathbeds, to enter lengthy solar panel leases.

Two Texas residents told the Free Beacon that their fathers were persuaded to sign such leases while senile and on hospice.
If true...someone needs to be taken to jail.

Yeah, I have never been able to see the math actually work and imagine it doesn't in most cases

You won't even save 100-150 bucks a month. It doesn't make financial sense.

Unless there are tax advantages or you want to pair with a battery as a hedge against power interruption.

If you have a pretty energy efficient home, panels are junk and a waste of money. Especially in Texas, where AC is a necessity.

Solar as a hedge against power interruption sounds pretty terrible given a back-up generator is a fraction of the cost.
