My dogs' first bobcat

Sometimes, miracles happen.

Most here know I have a couple of hounds and we run lions when we can find them, but I run a lot of bobcats when I can't find a lion track. Bobcats are far more difficult to tree, but these dogs were bred and born to run, so I run them.

The first bobcat my dogs ever caught on their own was a very heavy furred female. Didn't know what it was in the tree. You can't tell with a bobcat.

Decided to have it mounted, since it was my dogs' first. Gave it to a guy a buddy recommended, right before Christmas. He said if I paid in advance, he'd cut me a deal. I did. And then nothing but empty promises for years. I'd given up. Stopped bothering him. 2 weeks ago he messages me on Messenger and says it is done. 5 years after I gave it to him. It isn't exactly what I wanted, but I have it.

I've had a run of trusting taxidermists I shouldn't have that was epic. 5 to be exact. At least one eventually followed through, and he didn't ask for any more money.

There's definitely worse out there. After hunting Texas & Mexico and seeing them my whole life, I was surprised how coveted the bobcat was to the houndsmen I hunted with in Utah last year. They said the same thing, harder to tree & keep treed than a lion, so tagging one with hounds is quite a feat. Congrats to you and the dogs.

Bobcat races are definitely the hardest! Been on a race to a tree with bear, lion and bobcat, it was definitely the most chaotic and challenging for the dogs we had turned out. Even in flat brush country compared to rougher terrain we were chasing lion and bear in.

Congrats Brad!

Later in life my dad pretty much quit running hogs and stuck to bobcats & the occasional lion. He said there was no comparison between dogs that could run and tree a bobcat and all the rest of the hound world.

Bobcats separate the men from the boys with hounds.

Congrats on your cat btw.

Nice mount...

I can only imagine how my Catahoula would take to having that mounted above the mantle above his bed, ha!

One of my dogs is a catahoula cross, we think. She came from a pound, but has turned out ok. She barked and growled at it for about an hour.
