Finally got around to doing this. It is a piece of Milo wood we got on a family vacation to hawaii last year. We saw the bone hooks everywhere, and the boys liked them, but they were all the same. So we decided to get a peice of wood and figured i would take a stab at carving him a hook from it:

this is the first of 3. We went last summer and the summer before, and got wood on each trip. One year they both got wood for hooks (so i still need to make 2 more hooks) and the older boy we got wood for me to make a chess set from... The chess board/box is easy enough, but i am working on my consistency with making chess pieces. These pieces are just test pieces from mesquite until i get good enough i can make a the actual pieces from the mango/koa wood we bought... Consistency on the pawns is going to be a challenge, and the knights intimidate me... i may have several scrap knights laying around that i didnt like and kept starting over...
