I've got an Aggie brother in (xxxx) county in need of a get away. He's going through a hard time and needs some mind clearing. Myself and another Aggie in the Fort Worth area are wanting to plan a weekend getaway for the three of us - partially because we are overdue but also to help my buddy that's going through a hard time.

We are the fishing, hunting, and atv type guys. Our buddy in (xxxx) county fishes a lot because he's so close to the water but he wouldn't mind to fish somewhere else down the coast.

I'm looking for ideas on where we can go or what guides we should contact for weekends in March. Budget probably $2k tops for the activity - so maybe a cheap exotic hunt, fishing trip on the Baffin, something along those lines. We can bring side by sides and would love to ride around a big ranch with a little hunting and fishing. South Texas, hill country, and maybe even central Texas are all options. Looking for a Friday - Sunday opportunity.

Thanks in advance!

that, or i know some outfitters with nice lodges you could buy an axis doe hunt on and have a few days relaxing. pig hunts in that range are good too, as you will get to shoot more than 1 animal.

Squirrel hunting and tent camping national forest. Full immersion around a campfire....
Or rent RV and do the same.
The planning and forethought will take him further away from his demons and replace with memories of the journey to get there much more than a catered lodge.
There are also areas that allow for your ATVs/SxSs..

Excellent point. All the getting ready can be a huge distraction for the better.

Do yall have a boat? Cabins for rent in the land cut are a lot of fun.

So I have an update on this….

My buddy is still going through a hard time. Myself and other Aggie buddy have been worried about his mental health. That's why we wanted a get away.

Anyway, I've been busy this summer. We moved. I have 2 young kids. Busy life stuff. I checked in with my hurting buddy periodically and the answer was always the same. He would say he wasn't sure how much longer he could handle it.

So being the holidays, I text him to check in to let him know I am thinking about him. He asked for prayers and then said some things that could be interpreted as suicidal. Wife and I contemplated calling local police for a welfare check. Then he asks me to text a phone number and tell whomever that "(name) needs prayers." It was late, he may had been drinking, so I slept on it first.

Next day rolls around. He texts me and says don't text that number. Then he mentions that number is "her."

So longer story shorter, my buddy and wife decided to try swinging with the neighbors. Then he developed more than physical attraction to the lady across the street.

I told him to keep it in his pants and be a husband and a father. He responds that it's "not his fault" because "she said I love you first."

And meanwhile, the neighbor has moved on. Her family has forgiven her.

My buddy is still in love with the neighbor. He's living in the guest bedroom upstairs in his own house. He can't get his head on straight. His wife and kid still in the house.

Guess I'm glad I didn't invest in a weekend get away for his "hard time."

Pic of the neighbor? Pic of wife? Let the board decide.

Also, man… the P is still undefeated. Of course "her family forgave her"… she's obviously the hotter one and that husband knows if the shoe was on the other foot…
