Grid is in worse shape than you are led to believe.
Old decrepit units have to run to prevent blackouts.
Load demand keeps increasing yet new, reliable, dispatch-able sources are years away from coming online.
State Representative Troy Fraser of Horseshoe Bay should be ashamed for the mess he led creating with the grid. We should be taking electricity for granted , not worried about blackouts.
I pray we don't have a hot summer with a high pressure system parked over central Texas shutting down wind generation. I've seen that happen.
If that happens, it will get dicey in the 1700-2300 window with solar generation ramping off.
As an example, ERCOT is now entering into a contract for City Public Service San Antonio to keep old natural gas fueled Braunig unit 3 running.
Analysis of peak summer demand and transmission constraints show concerns over mandatory load shedding without the unit available.
Braunig 3 was scheduled to be retired Spring of 2025, it's a 55 year old worn out gas fired boiler & steam turbine that started generating in 1970
