I hate raccoons. Didn't have this issue with the feeder last year. I had pics of the dang thing trying to crawl up legs and now just pics of him in there. I guess I need to put something on the legs to prevent them from climbing but I'm not sure they aren't reaching up from the ground and pulling themselves up.

I think someone here had this feeder? Is there a solution to this problem?

This is a poor design by ASF because the feed troughs are too close to the legs. Check out the 2000# Extended Tube Protein Feeders made by Texas Wildlife Supply. The coons cant seem to reach the tubes. We had good results with them.

I swear that a lot of these feeder companies never go into the field to see how there stuff holds up or works.

ETA : I will add that when we got these they had an option to add a timer that would dump the bulk feed to the troughs at certain times. You could set the times and how much feed similar to a spin cast feeder. We found they saved us a ton of money on feed because we could set different times and keep the dominant animals from hogging the feeder. We would change up times about once a month so it would give more animals a chance to get feed instead of just the "feeder hogs". It allowed us to regulate the amount of feed we fed per animal unit instead of just free choice.
I dont know if they still offer that option at Texas Wildlife Supply or not. We let all our feeders go with the ranch when we sold it...and MO does not allow any baiting or feeders so I don't have any anymore.

You bought a game feeder, not a deer feeder.

Had some buddies hunt the Big Cat/Grey Fox contest last weekend. They killed 68 raccoons that night in one pecan bottom.

This guy knew a thing or two about raccoons.

Just need to send momma out with the broom.

If you eradicate the Bobcat and Coyote populations you increase in Racoon populations.

I will say that in the 29 years of owning the ranch in the hill country we never had a coon problem at the dozen feeders that ran year around. Our old TPWD biologist Fielding Harwell said if we didn't kill every Fox, Bobcat and Coyote we saw that we would have a healthy balance of all.
We took his advice and we also bought feeders that coons couldn't get into.
About the only time we killed a coon was when we would take kids out with .22's to spotlight a coon or two at night for fun of the hunt.

Grease the every living **** out of the legs. Coons hate getting stuff on themselves and their fur and if they cant climb it easily, they do give up. Deer don't really get bothered by it.

This stuff will likely work too. I use it for keeping birds off of everything at the house, is its hard as hell to get it off, so try not to get it on you lol Its lasted over a year out in the elements so far and its still just as goopy as the day i put it on the window sills. Took a good few minutes of scrubbing with dawn to get it off my hands.

One thing I guarantee about free choice protein feeders is that they grow some world class trophy raccoons.

And white wing doves. We had some doves that chow down all day on the spilled pellets.
They looked like deranged Cornish game hens they were so fat. They had to stay in ground affect for 50 yards before flying.

About 20 years ago I was working on a project and our construction manager had a ranch somewhere in Texas. He showed me a picture taken by a game camera of a coon standing on the back of a pig pulling corn out of the feeder. I guess they must have worked out a sharing plan for the corn that fell.
