Does anyone have any recommendations for a training collar for dogs. I bought some from Amazon last year and they worked for about 3 months then were worthless.

For just general dog training or gun dog? I run a garmin pro 550 for my lab(s) but that's for duck hunting and training.

We use a dogtra 1900s and the thing has been solid. Used for training and we barely shock him except for reinforcement. We walk off leash

I've got a set of Tri Tronics (now Garmin 550) collars, charger, and remote that I don't need anymore. Are you anywhere near New Braunfels or Corpus?

Garmin TT15 or TT15 mini with a Pro 550+ handheld. Can track and train on 3 dogs at once. Also pairs with Garmin watches to be able to track dogs without holding your handheld. You still need to carry it in a pocket but you can check their distance at a glance while hunting by just looking g at your wrist. It's nice.

Have a Dogtra for our Bullmastiff. Not sure what model, but it works well.

I have a Dogtra that is going on 6 years of daily abuse by a very active Dog. If you're just looking for a recall and corrective collar, they are very hard to beat.

What kinda dog and what kind of training?

Garmin sport pro is all you need unless you need GPS.

Sportdog has been great for us... We bought it for the underground fence

sportdog is a good brand. i've spent tons of money on expensive setups and replaced them with bargain ones over time. any brand will break or wear down over time, so i personally don't see the allure of the hyper expensive brands unless you need extensive range or to control more than two dogs on one controller.

i'd recommend reading tom dokken's retriever training if you haven't done so.

Where are you located? I have a couple older dogtra that I have upgraded from but those units still have some life left.

The Old Man always swore by Tri-Tronics. The man couldn't operate a TV remote, and don't even ask about a computer, but he had shock collars down cold.

dogtra here....couple of blue lacy's and they worked well for years

We use Dogtra. It was recommended to us through Best Retrievers.

Not sure it's what you're looking for, but we got the Halo collar for our dog, mostly for the geo fence - bc our rural property isn't fully fenced and our dog plays well with the neighbors dog.

I've been AMAZED at how well it works, both when she's wearing it, and to establish the "no go" zones even when she's not.

App control works well, ease of establishing geo fence is really nice. Portablilty for multiple geofences is awesome.

Pretty much have to charge it every night is the only downside

anything of that nature, just buy PetSafe brand. It's top quality stuff.
