I know we talked about outdoors goals and getting new knees was part of my path. Had my 9th knee surgery on Tuesday to replace my left knee. Once the rehab is far enough along I'll do my right knee.

Nerve block has worn off and the pain definitely sucks but the only way through it is forward and to do the work.

My father in law had one of his knees replaced a few years ago. It drastically improved his mobility. My biggest recommendation is to stick to the physical therapy. It hurts and is a pain in the ass, but it will help the healing process.

Pain blockers have really gone to ****, unless you somehow flipped that image, that is your RIGHT knee!

So how is this outdoor related?

Maybe now you'll finally start using that brand new boat you bought like 2 years ago? But it's not like you could stand and fish for a few hours anyways

Take them ugly knees to the general board

I bought one of these when I had rotator cuff surgery. It's a game changer
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

My 71 year old wife had it done in August. Going around like nothing happened as of December. Do the PT and all the home exercises they give you. Get an stationary exercise bike or borrow one and pedal. Raise and lower the seat to get different bends to the knee. Good luck to you.
Good Day.

Just had my second one (both knees) at the end of August. Getting around good but still have a little pain from time to time. Do your PT and ice it as much as possible. I felt like the first one took 10 months to fully feel great. Just stay at it and don't get discouraged, you will get through it.
Sure is great to sleep pain free!!!
Good luck.

Go to a PT place that does pool therapy. Walking in a pool does wonders.

Good info sir. If I was younger I would have absolutely went the stem cell route. Something to think about before diving off into a major " day" surgery. Sure is some work to get it right!

Tarpon. Will say some prayers for the Great Physician to heal you fast sir.
Just fyi. My colleague who handles sales for us in Oklahoma, Arkansas, MO has been due both knee replacements. His wife works with MD who referred him to an Ortho group. They talked to him about Stem Cell treatment instead of replacements
He just had it done two weeks ago on one. So far he is progressing as planned post op.
He did about a 1/2 year on extensive research and talked with many other patients and says it quite remarkable.
I can give you his number to talk with him if you like.
Great guy.
Might can save you a lot of pain
Or maybe you already looked into it? If so tell me I'll delete my post.
Either way get well sir.

I'd be interested to hear about it. My Wife may need knee replacement….

Good luck with your recovery Tarp.

I have a family member that has had a hip replacement and knee replacement. They said the knee replacement was much more painful in recovery than the hip replacement. No question!

I suspect that may be in my future. I had knee surgery back about 7 months ago. Went in for meniscus trimming (to trim away torn areas) but the dr also ground away arthritis growths. I can walk, but much of the time not without pain, especially in the morning or after sitting for more than an hour.

My other knee is sending warning pains occasionally too, now.

Wondering if you have any advice and were your prior surgeries related to meniscus/arthritis?

Good luck.

My mom had it done and was on the slopes skiing in 30 days. Granted she used the Steadman Clinic in Vail. They are the official clinic of US ski team and have done people like Lindsey Vonn. If anyone has the means, i would recommend having it done there.

First injury was fall of 1994 when I was a senior in HS. Got high-lowed and tore my patellar tendon, ACL. PCL, MCL, and both medial & lateral menisci. Dislocated my knee and it bent 180-degrees sideways. I don't recommend it.

All the big time offers evaporated. Injury on Friday and by Monday both RC and Gene Stallings had called to say, "sorry about your knee but we can't offer a scholarship anymore but if you want to walk on we'd love to have to." Rice called about 2 weeks later and still offered so I signed there.

Took 3 surgeries to fix everything only the cartilage tears wouldn't get blood flow so they didn't take and had to have a good chunk removed.

Rehabbed and played a tiny bit as a freshman at Rice but then fall of 1996 I tore my ACL again and the docs made me retire. That was surgery #4 and I lost more cartilage.

Transferred to A&M to just be a student. But like most guys in their early-20s I still thought I was bulletproof. Tried rugby and MMA for a while.

My 3rd ACL wasn't as exciting. Tore my right ACL stepping in a hole when doing yard work. Lost cartilage there too.

Then 3 random scopes to clean out bone spurs, cartilage breaking loose, and general BS from living life.

Last scope before this was probably 15-16 years ago. Just trying to be active and live but not really successful at keeping weight off because of the pain. Ground down to bone on bone in both knees several years ago and the pain just got to a point where I couldn't lead the life I wanted to so here I am on knee surgery #9 and #10 on the near horizon. Hopefully that will be the last.

Guess we should form the WE-KNEE CLUB. Had mine done in College Station on Jan 6 and the art` work looks similar. My incision may be a little straighter.

My wife is 3 weeks in. She is already way more mobile but she still has severe pain. Has trouble sleeping still but is improving gradually. She does pt 3x per week and home exercises. She plans to do the other one in the summer. Hang in there.

Did any of you do pre- physical therapy?
Did any certain exercise make a difference?

I'm scheduled for knee replacement this month.
I've been doing at-home daily pre-surgery PT per training from the Therapist who will do my post surgery PT.

I'm a rare case, but I'll throw this out there. Recently had my right knee finally replaced after 5 scopes over the years. Surgeon was an idiot and the hardware did not stick. He's no longer practicing so no worries there. Ended up having 5 major surgeries and 3 total knee replacements in a span of 13 months. Most of those surgeries were due to a prosthetic infection. Take your antibiotics and see a doctor if there's even a remote sign of infection. Those are a major pain to deal with. Things rarely go wrong with these surgeries but if they do, they go way wrong.

Bend the knee every day and ice it for hours for several months. I'm running on mine. If you need an ice machine, I'll be glad to send one to borrow.

zooguy96. ….. I was able to talk with my colleague who had the stem cell procedure instead of knee replacement.
He said he would be more than happy to share his experience and how he is progressing.
I am going to PM you his name and contact number.
