This trip's been long in the making. We were going 16 years ago until our son broke his leg in a lacrosse game and we had to cancel. Now we finally get to put a check in the box.

We'll leave for Buenos Aires Friday afternoon and arrive there on Saturday morning. We'll make a connection and head on to Esquel where we'll be met and taken to Tres Valles Lodge https://www.patagoniariverguides.com/fly-fishing-lodges/prg-at-tres-valles-lodge/.
So far everything about the lodge is first class.

On our way back we'll spend several days in Buenos Aires eating parilla until we look like Mr. Creosote.

We did this trip in March. Flew into Punta Arenas and stayed at EcoCamp right at the base of Los Torres del Paine. It is incredible but extremely cold. Make sure you layer up and have a windbreaker and rain gear. We ended up hiking about 70 miles in the 8 days we were there. The rain and wind can be oppressive. You may be showing up around summer time there so you may not have the same weather experience. We showed up more in the shoulder season/fall and it was cold. Have fun!

Did the hunting thing in Patagonia with family several years ago. My regret was not spending more time in and around BA. Lots to see and do.

The flights were were initially booked on, first leaving at 3:58, then rebooked to 11:47 departure, then rebooked to the earliest flight we could get. We're boarded and about to takeoff.

We returned to the gate here in Atlanta because of the snow. They told us the flight's not cancelled. We're hoping they're just needing time to plow the runways and them we'll board and be on our way. Our connection in Houston is at 6:30 and there's another flight to BA at 8:30 with seats available. Fingers crossed it all falls into place.

They told us the flight was canceled although it never showed to be canceled on the board or app. We rebooked for the same flights tomorrow. Them they said we're going today. So re rebooked our flights on the flights we were originally on. We should be pulling back from the gate in a few and get into Houston at 3:43, plenty of time to make our 6:30 flight to Buenos Aires. I'll feel better when we're actually in the air

Well, we're still in Atlanta, booked to fly out this afternoon. UA pilot was a puss. Other airlines were departing left and right and our guy didn't want to go.

Fortunately the lodge allowed us to add another day of fishing onto the backend to make up for the lost day tomorrow. Some slight adjustments to the in-country travel tomorrow. No fight to Esquel manana so we'll fly into Bariloche and then drive 7 hours to Tres Valles lodge. I'm actually looking forward to the drive along the base of the Andes and seeing more of Patagonia.

Bariloche is an interesting place. We flew in April of 15 for stag at Algar. Three hour drive north along the Andes is indeed an awesome drive. We had a plus in that a volcano was blowing just west of Bariloche in Chile.
The stream or river looked extremely promising for fishing but we did not go for that. I think I could spend about 3 months in Patagonia just exploring.

We made it Bariloche and now we're driving south to Tres Valles Lodge with Martin. It's dustier than Satan's ass crack. Fishing manana!

I fished with PRG out of Trevelin, highly recommended. Variety of water is unbelievable in a short distance, gorgeous country, great food and service.

We pulled into the lodge at 11:30 last night. The drive from Bariloche took right at 7 hours but we saw some beautiful country.

This is the view we woke up to this morning. After breakfast this pescador will get down to business.

Just got back from our first day of fishing here. It took me longer to knock some of the rust off this morning than I would have liked, when we fished on the Rio Pampas. We thought it got windy in Montana but not like it was here today. After lunch we moved to Negro Spring Creek where I ended the day on a high note.

We had a geeat day fishing the Rio Pico yesterday. Nothing huge but we caught a good number of fish. We continue to be in awe of the beauty of Patagonia.

Melissa does fish (and usually out fishes me). But there are other activities. They have a masseuse, horseback riding, hiking. The staff here is incredible and really work hard to make it an amazing experience.

Today was tough. Brutal wind made wading tough, not to mention casting. Here's a look.

We did catch fish but it was work. We ate lunch around 2:00 pm and decided an early day would do us good, given the wind and our travel issues in getting here.

During lunch we learned about the finer points and cultural significance of mate. We were told step by step how to prepare mate (the herb) and enjoyed sharing mate (the drink) out of our guide's mate (the cup) that he inherited from his grandmother when she passed on. Here's one of the guides pouring hot water into the mate.
