Jyst have to brag a minute. Little dude is... well my stepson whether I'm married to his momma or not( she calls him my step kid). I helped him get his first fish back in the spring, yesterday he succeeded in learning to not only cast, but getting it on the bank by himself!! Never seen a kid, or me, so proud and excited!

Well of course I post it and can't get the image working :-(

Good job DAD. While maybe not your genetics, that boy is your son. He will remember his first fish by himself and who was with him!

I have a biological father that I have not seen for over 60 years, and then I have a daddy. Anybody can be a father. Daddy, not so much.

Agreed, I have 2 stepsons. One is older and his dad signed his rights away before he was born. The other is around 10 and his dad's idea of quality time was playing Fortnite while drinking until he passed out. Its amazing to see how excited the kids get when they catch their first fish, ride a bike, shoot a gun, go exploring, and all the things we take for granted.

It is one of the reasons I volunteer at my kids' school a few times a year, some kids don't have a good father figure in their life. Same as helping to coach, I know having a good male role model after my dad left changed my life for the better.

I met my daughter when she was 6. I knew I was ready to be her dad when I planted myself in between a 1100 pound pissed if momma cow and her and pretended I was big enough to stop her. I got hit, but she got away.

This one( there are 3, and the whole situation is more complicated than I'd get into on a forum) knows his bio dad. The reality is he will likely not meet him in person again until he's an adult.

Im doing everything I can to see all of them happy, healthy, and doing as much as my limited funds allow. I had to help explain to him earlier this year that his little brother( half brother through dad) had died, and that "dad" was not going to be around anymore( it's probably worse than it sounds...).

Im just happy i cam be there for all of them right now. We did family photos today and shpt fireworks tonight...ive been asked 100 times when we're going fishing again!

I want to take him to shoot soon, but we're working on some behavorial/trust issues. ODD runs in the family, and he is displaying early signs quite brilliantly. I've never dealt with that issue before, it's absolutely wild to see him flair and suddenly refuse to do something you're asking him to, even if it would benefit/make him happy.

Being a dad is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't give up. The rewards are great.
