Can anyone recommend an Elk Hunting outfitter that offers private land and tags? Not too concerned with where….CO, NM, UT, WY, etc would all be fine. Bucket list kind of thing with some friends. Would like lodging included but not necessary.

Thanks and Gig Em.

Red River, NM.

Dirk Neal has a contract with the local reservation. HIs SIL can also guide you if you draw on public land nearby.

His hunting pics etc aren't on the link, but his contact info is. He is legit.

I hunted with Southwest Big Game Brokerage (Keith Williams is the owner) in New Mexico unit 12. Keith offers hunts for folks who get a tag through the draw or for folks who want to just buy a landowner tag and not worry about getting drawn. He has a website but I would just call him and let him know what you need. His phone number is on his site.

If you are wanting a lodge setting, this is the only one I will recommend near me.

reverse7L.com

Colt and I guided together for years and they have a great set up outside Meeker.

If you are open to public land hunts but with an outfitter that camps in very remote areas with great results, then Sable Mountain Outfitters in Meeker is great.

Villa Ranch is good too, but not as big of bulls as Sable Mountain.

Lost creek outfitters in Wyoming. I have been 3 trips with them and loved it.

That looks like a fun pack out......

A friend of mine runs Coyote Outfitters near Durango. Lodging and food included if you want. My dad shot a 5x5 bull down the road 2nd rifle season and we have hunted with them many times.

Exactly. I would be completely by myself, no other humans or horses around for 500miles if that happened to me.

My dad hunted on the Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico a few years back. Has a great lodge.

Only recently did I hear this wisdom in hunting; "a shot not taken is always a good decision".

FWIW that bull looks like he has identity issues....probably thought he was a Billy or a Ram.

Ive packed out my own bull 2 times. It was one of the most miserable experiences I have had on a mountain, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I think it is the only way to get the most meat out fast enough before the bears find it. On my bull in 2022, bears were on it after the 2nd trip.

Did you shuss them away with shotgun blasts and pepper spray or train them to come back again because they refused to be pushed off?

We try to separate gut pile from carcass 25+ yards and then cover the **** out of the carcass with fresh cut pine branches....not fool proof but does keep the birds out.

Hate to hijack the thread but looking for trespass fee in Colorado, so somewhat related.
We are looking to burn our 8 Colorado points and are open to paying for private land access if we could find the right place.
We have narrowed it down to several units, 66,48,58,500 and 84.
Looking to stay DIY but if anyone has any suggestions or contacts for archery or first rifle it would be greatly appreciated.

Ended up finding a drop camp outfitter in 66. Curious if anyone has any experience with Legacy West Outfitters.

Awesome bull and great pics!

What's the story on all the blood on his ass end? I bet it's a good one...

To be honest I'm not really sure I never even noticed it or looked into it. He fell a long ass way from where I shot him. I had about 5 minutes of minor heart attack waiting for horns to break as I watched him roll down the mountain.
