How's is that off basis? It's extremely relevant.
If he's been there 13 years then it sounds like a married couple bickering. If It's his first and his first lease outside of hunting friends places then he needs to realize leasing is a business and treated as such.

I think this is a case of those that don't own land dont understand the liability and business aspects of leasing property. I don't know a single landowner that wouldn't keep an eye on their Investment and as such practice the behaviors itemized by the OP earlier. Not one. Maybe you guys do and that's cool but every large tract land owner around here would be doing equal or more than what was described by the OP.
My guess is there's history here between one or mltiple members of the hunting party and the landowner that the OP either doesn't know or isn't telling. Maybe it was from the previous leasees. Regardless, something has made this guy think it's necessary to spend his time and money keeping an eye in things and people. Maybe he's just Retired and bored but is guess something happened to make him feel like the oversight is necessary.

Actually… sorry for being so mean to you. I feel sorry for you. You don't know any better, and the comment above says it all. Sounds like you had some decent leasees who tried to be stewards of the land and treat it like their own and you laughed at them for it. That's kinda sad at the end of the day. You're only beholden to what the lease says, but that goes both ways. I've never left a lease in worse shape, and regardless of who "wants the improvements" they're material improvements to the land.
I've been on both sides of this transaction too, since it seems you want to throw that in peoples faces acting like you're better than others. If you have trust issues like it seems it's probably better for you to just forgo leasing your land for hunting. Sounds like you have a working property so it can't be actually worth it.

Since we're just assuming stuff, I can try. Based on your arrogant attitude I'd guess whatever land you have you didn't buy, rather have family land that you likely couldn't afford today if you had to buy it yourself. Most folks that worked hard and bought their own piece of land aren't leasing it out, rather, using it to hunt/enjoy in place of said lease. Sure does make you feel good to lord what you inherited over the rest of us peons who are paying you to take care of you stuff for you.
Let's not act like the land owner is doing anyone a favor, if the money wasn't worth it to you then you wouldn't do it.
