Is there a "best" semi auto 12ga in the sub $1000 range ? Or possibly ones to avoid? TIA

Beretta A300

For a "quality" 12g under 1k you're probably looking at
Winchester
Mossberg
Stoeger

in that order

Coincidentally, that is also in descending price order

ETA: How did I forget the Beretta?
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Franchi Affinity should be in the mix as well.

Beretta A300
Have to spend over twice as much to get "better". Which likely you wouldn't notice.

I still like a 20ga 870 better....I'll just say that just cuz...

Franchi Affinity nomination here as well. Benelli parts without the price.

I have the Stoeger mentioned above. I have "nicer" shot guns but this is the one I reach for to go hunting. I really love it.

You need to shoulder the different brands to see what fits you best. For me, benelli and Franchi fit well. Berettas simply do not
We have Franchi and benelli and both have been great.

Another vote for Franchi Affinity.

I'd go Winchester SX4 then A300 and last Franchi Affinity.

Really enjoying my SX4.

My SX4 eats every single shell I run through it no problem. Love it, absolute workhorse of a shotgun. For sub 1k that would be my pick. I want to get an SX4 Upland in 20g eventually, they are slick.

It eats everything in all weather.

LOVE my new SX4. Haven't toted my SBE2 all season. 3" BOSS 3/5's are hammers with a Rob Roberts T3 choke.

Have an A300 I'd be willing to let go of for $800. Only been used as a turkey gun so very little use. 12 gauge, semi auto, black barrel, camo stock. Located in DFW
- If you are going to do something stupid, be smart about it.

I've had a Beretta for over 20 years. It is by far my most trouble free semiauto I own. I can fees it any ammo and it just shoots.

SX4 = Browning Silver. Same gas piston system, made in same FN factory. Personally, the Browning fits me better, potato potahto. It cycles everything reliably. Also bought a Franchi Affinity few years ago and it's a shooter. Great fit, quality, & operation.

I've been eyeing the Weatherby Element Waterfowler.

My Super X3 and 4 have been been flawless through thousands of shells. They are truly an any shell every time kind of gun.

Plus one on the Winchester. Love my sx3. Almost bought an sx4 a couple times I kinda want Maxus too but can't bring myself to spend more for very little gain.

Winchester SX4. You just missed a killer deal at Bass Pro. They had the 3.5" hybrid hunter for $750. Winchester had a $75 mail in rebate on top of that.

I didn't need another shotgun but couldn't resist that price.

SX4 no doubt.I have Beretta A400 and the Win SX makes me wonder why I paid more for the Beretta. Both guns are fantastic. The SX4 functions great. The A400 functions great but is slightly prettier. Best near 1K semi shotgun is the SX…

Bout A100.

Mostly the kickoff system to help with recoil. You also get additional chokes, a better coated shotgun (in some models), and more corrosion resistant components (in some models).

I have an A400 and absolutely love it! It shoots way smoother than the inertia guns but fit will vary. Downside is that you will need to clean it more often than an inertia system. If you're the guy that never cleans your guns and uses them regularly, I wouldn't go gas. If you clean once a year at minimum - you should have no problems.
