Any users out there?

We shot a 245lb buck this past year. Our feed bill and our deer sizes have both increased since we switched from antler max.

We've used several years with good results. Only thing is they can't eat much before needing water. You put water troughs by the feeders and the deer will hit it HARD

We use it, it took the deer a while to get used to it, but once they did it's been very, very, good. FAT deer and healthy does. However, we also feed a LOT of cotton seed.

Have yall ever messed w/ the fortified cottonseed? We tried it but the deer didn't want to eat it

Takes a while for deer to get use to it if it's not common in your area. Put it out when they don't have a lot to eat and mix corn or protein in with it.

We had it out for 6+ months and the refused to eat it… we mixed it w corn, protein, and regular cottonseed. As soon as we switched back to the regular stuff they started hammering it again

I use Lyssy and Eckel protein plus have cottonseed feeders out as well. Keep feeders full year round . Get a lot of my feeds from Lyssy Eckel for show cattle, regular cattle, deer, and horses.

Ive used it for several years. Dont go into it thinking that its a magic bullet. It will certainly fatten them up and the previous post about water is a must. Ive recently decided thats its just not worth the extra effort since Im not high fenced and the deer on my place have (in my opinion) reached their full potential based on numbers and density. Ive got no hunting pressure around me so the numbers have increased in population dramatically since I have everything they need and they just keep moving on in. Mixing it with corn appears to have been crack for them recently so Ill have to quit that. The deer really do like DD and will eat everything you put out.d

I understand this will differ from dealer to dealer, but what's the typical cost of a 50lbs bag?

They have two kinds. Pen and Pasture which is 16% and then the original blend which is 20%. The 16% is usually between 15 and 16 bux per and the 20% is 17 to 18 bux. There's a DD store located in Rosenburg which I've found to have the best price most of the time. Dealers are kind of everywhere on the pricing.

Additionally - I have a water source just under 200yds away. Is that close enough?

I went off the cliff on Fortified Cottonseed, even talked to the owner/inventor several times before purchasing. Ended up buying 22 tons (most that a truck could haul). Our deer to that point were doing extremely well on a protein feed supplemented with regular cotton seed. I was looking for something more to add.

IT WAS AN EPIC FAILURE. I see some others on this thread are having some luck with it, but our deer didn't touch it for 12 months (we are in Duval County). Ended up selling last 5 tons or so to a local, who said it ended up rotting in his feeders like ours did.

If you try it, I would start really small. I'm still a bit of a laughing stock about my fortified experiment.

It should be fine but having a water source literally next to the feed works best. I ran lines to all my feed stations and I have a big tank(pond...whatever) that I have filled by water well year round as well next to the main feed station.

Im in Duval as well and I tried adding cottonseed after I was into protein for a few years and the deer never touched it either. I found that they liked the protein better so I quit that experiment. I figure if you havent fed protein first the cottonseed would work much better. Too bad it didnt work out for ya.

At the cost of that stuff, maybe you don't want a water source too close. It's a supplement not a feedlot ration.

The TS fortified in my link above is what I feed in Duval County. The deer like it. I'm not feeding protein though.

It took us 4-5 tries to get deer on cotton seed. Mixing various things with it didn't work. Put it out in early January during a particular dry time before we put out protein. They started eating it.

I switched from Lyssy & Echol To Double Down and saw results very quickly. There could be many reasons other than feed as to the improvements, but palatability is key.
It doesn't matter the protein content if the deer don't eat it.
