I was able to get on this deer yesterday evening. Set up a stand on one of my main side by side trails at a convergence of three ridges leading to my main food plot/pasture. I'd seen this guy earlier in the fall and was able to kill his dad last year. His dad went 165"+ and was 6.5-7.5 years old.
I couldn't pass him up.
He came from behind me (the north northeast) and I was hunting on a South to Southeast wind. He came in fairly slow for a buck, which made me think it was a doe and fawns slowly and cautiously making their way. I thought he would keep moving to my north and west and come into my scent, but he made a sharp left hand turn and came down to my east. Perfect.
I didn't know what he was until about 30 yards out and was happy to see it was him. I called him "Sonny" due to being very, very similar to the deer I killed last year.
He crossed the main trail in front of me at 12 yards and my 1.5" Fatal Steel took out his offside lung and heart. He trotted about 25-30 yards and laid down. Done!!
