You used to be able to get a century tree sapling from the Aggie Century Tree Project. However, that no longer exists. Does anyone know where I can get a Century Tree sapling besides going to campus picking up an acorn and growing it myself?

Not sure but I have one that's about 3 feet now that was grown from an acorn.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

So are you daring me to steal it?

No ma'am! But I can get a few acorns when I'm there on 11/30 and sprout them for you

Pretty sure the guy that was doing it died a few years ago.

Yes, a friend of mine collects and grows them. He and sells them at https://aggiecenturytree.com/. The profits raise money for aggie scholarships.

Sutton is a red ass Aggie. He's taking this over for all the right reasons. He's an outstanding Aggie. Please support the cause!

Years ago I think there was a website where you could buy saplings grown from other historic and notable trees. Seems like Century Oak was available from that place too.

Damn....it was called the Century Tree by people way older than me when I first came to College Station nearly a quarter century ago.

What procedures do use to grow therefrom an acorn?

Nothing special, but you have to have viable acorns. Un-split green ones that sink in water. Germinate and plant. Its that easy.

Whoa 250 bucks is ridiculous, you might as well get down there or pay a student for acorns

Or you can start doing it and sell them much cheaper! Step up.

I do it as a hobby every year! I donate them to Aggie moms clubs, church festivals and other fundraisers….….but…I give the trees away when they need to be put in bigger pots (it's a lot of work). The only ones I raise for the long haul are earmarked for wedding gifts or memorials ….

I have a decent supply now (around 30 trees) but all my current trees are only 1 yr old (2023 acorn)….so they are about 20"

Edit to add: ive had best success with brown acorns taken from the tree, grown in well drained pot of 1/2 potting soil and 1/2 rich top soil from my creek bottom.

Andy taught me his method a few years back when I was growing saplings from my Toomers Oak clones. I had two saplings from my toomers trees growing with one of Andy's last sold saplings growing between them at my house in Bryan. We sold the house. I hope the new home owner keeps them going. Andy helped me a lot and he is missed.

Someone really should try getting cuttings from the century tree and using rooting hormone to create clones. I'd pay $250 for that. I think that's about what the Toomers clones cost

I unfortunately never had any luck getting my trees to clone.
