I want to get my daughter into archery, what would be a good starter? I know nothing about archery myself and would be interested in learning as well (getting my own). But for now, want to get a set up for my daughter so we can go in the back yard (we have a couple acres so no worries).

I am sure others will be along with great starter advice. My best advice is to find out which of her eyes is dominant before she starts learning to shoot. I did most things right handed as a kid, but found out before I started shooting a bow that my left eye is dominant. Drawing and shooting with the side that matches your dominant eye will make life much easier, even if it isn't the side she does everything else with.

My 8 year old started with a genesis. This is the bow all the instructors and bow shops reccomended. A mini genesis would probably be better for a 6 year old. Both my girls are left eye dominant so you want to check that first.

After practicing awhile I took her for a lesson to make sure I wasn't installing any bad fundamentals and they reccomended moving her to a compound so she is shooting the mission hmmr. Starting out though the genesis seems to be the overwhelming favorite from everyone I talked to

Make a triangle with your thumbs and forefingers, stretch your arms out, and focus on a distant object. Slowly move your hands toward your face while keeping the object in view. The opening will naturally come to your dominant eye.

I have a custom made youth longbow. Right handed. Got it for my left eye dominant kids before I figured that out. Let me know if interested.

go to Texas Archery on Treaschwig. They have a JOAD program. Not sure what the minimum age is. But, it would be a good place to start.
