Trying to decide on which helmet - best bang for the buck. I came across these two. Thinking of going with the 2nd one since it was #4 in the Virginia tech helmet test. If someone has Any other recommendations, let me know.

I wear Giro helmets. Reason: I'm old... A few years ago I was going pretty hard on a trail. Started down a hill that I have done several times. My front tire caught a vee of roots that stopped my front wheel dead. While I was in midair I surveyed my landing spot and realized it was some melon sized iron ore rocks. I was able to turn my head and the side of the helmet took a hard hit. I didn't even get a headache.

I have a source I wear sometimes, ventilation is fine, I don't really notice the MIPS liner creaking (it's very annoying on my Smith full face helmet) and it's comfortable.

It also doesn't have the terrible looking visor of the tactic.

What made you go with that one over the other one I linked?

Try them on if you can. I've owned tons of helmets over the years. Heads come in all shapes and sizes. Some brands fit me better than others.

It was originally $10 more expensive (so must be better, right?) and the sale price is $10 cheaper (so double better).

My suggestion, if you haven't already, is to try them both on. My experience is that Giro helmets just don't fit quite right on my head, and Bell helmets usually fit me very well. From a practical standpoint if they are ANSI rated and have a MIPS system in them, there is not a lot of difference in how they will perform in a crash. I would worry more about picking the one that fits most comfortably with your skull shape after verifying that it has those two attributes.

N on the 2nd one which I just ended up getting - they said to sign up for emails and they would send you 15% off. Also - the post i saw on slickdeals said add to cart. Go all the way to checkout - then exit - within 2 hours they would send a email with a code for free Express shipping….both codes stacked and it worked like a charge. So about 55 and some change total shipped. Plus it came in at #4 in the Virginia tech helmet test. Main reason was just picked it off vs the first. I think you cant go wrong with either!
