Anybody use pet insurance that has treated them well in an emergency or surgery? Any advice from the vets on the board would be helpful of which ones have been better than others.

We have Trupanion. Our dog is a 3-year old GP mix who developed allergies around 1 year of age. He is on Apoquel and for his size (130 pounds) costs just under $180/month. After we were out $1,000 Trupanion covers 90% of the cost for the rest of his life. His monthly premium is $68. Ive never had pet insurance before but I'm glad we got it for this dog.

Just looked up Spot and they are $98 a month. Best 2 I've seen recommended on several sites is Lemonade and Pets Best. Both are around $30 a month for Unlimited Annual Coverage, $750 deductible, and $750 annual deductible. Both are accident and illness, include Rx's, and vet exams for accident or illness.

Anything else I should consider?

The accident and illness is where insurance has huge value! Veterinary medicine has become very expensive, especially emergency clinics and specialists. The quality of care expected and available now vs 25 years ago is crazy. I'm doing things I never dreamed I'd be doing when I graduated in 97.

When we researched several years ago ManyPets was the best fit for us. We have been satisfied with the coverage, response and payback. They have a yearly deductible model, not a condition deductible model.
