In texas, a striped bark scorpion. Common in central texas basically all over the hill country and post oak prairie. Painful, but only a health risk if you have a strong allergic reaction.

Just a regular scorpion. We call them bark scorpions. We get them in the house all the time. I havnt stepped on one yet but the wife and kids have a few times.

Dropped a hand towel when washing my face at my bathroom sink and inadvertently picked up a small scorpion. Went to dry my face and zap! Yowza always check now if the towel falls on the floor. We get several in the house every year…NW Austin.

Put bleach on the spot it hit you and the pain goes away immediately.

I should tell yall the story of the time when I was 13 and put on a pair of jeans that were lying on my floor and got tagged multiple times on the inside of my thigh right where it joins my taint and once on my coin purse.

I bet there's never a time that you don't shake out your boots, socks, underwear, jeans, everything now.

I almost had it happen to me and I'll never put anything on while at the ranch if I haven't made sure there's no scorpions

Gonna file this away in my memory bank, my parents house on the ranch has plenty of them, got zapped a few times growing up, you learn not to put any clothes or shoes on the floor and always shake the clothes out real good just in case one gets in there. They get up in the attic, she is on an exterminator program that keeps them at bay. Hope the bleach works.. even the dogs bark at them.. I guess they got zapped before and have learned

I know that there are other ways they can get in the house but to keep them from coming in along the foundation I spray BioAdvanced Carpenter Ant, Termite and Insect Killer every two or three months. It kills everything that crawls across it : scorpions, spiders, ants crickets etc.. It's safe for pets after it has dried. I also spray it under the eaves of the house particularly in the corners because I have a huge daddy long leg problem. They say you can use it inside as well but I have never done so.

If you have weep holes in the brick in your house, stuff a bunch of steel wool in there. Keeps the creepy-crawlies out

Out of habit I use this stuff along the baseboards once or twice a year. The BioAdvanced might work for both I don't know but we rarely have bugs.

Don't leave blue jeans on the ground and try and wear them the next day. Learned that lesson the hard way when I moved from the pinewoods to the hill country.

Edit: fsguide beat me to it

I can top that. I had one crawl in my bed, into my boxers, and start stinging my balls while I was sleeping. I hopped out of bed in the middle of the night and it fell out of my boxers. After everyone in my family got stung at least once we sprayed Demon WP and the problem went away.

I've told the story here a few times so I'll spare the details but we had one in our bed one night and my wife got stung 5 times. She just got little red helps and said it was no worse than an ant bite. Freaked me out but she went right back to sleep after I killed it.

I think people can have wildly different reactions to it. I have an uncle who is it tough old hillbilly, and those things knock him on his ass

The design of the scorpion is pretty genius.

Long claws to hold prey at a distance. Tail stinger to kill the prey.

One of nature's more frightening designs.

When we were kids we would chop the stinger off and throw them on someone. Hilarity ensues.

I think it depends on the individual scorpion too. I've been hit a few times. Some were like a bee sting, some were killer.
