About that time to put a deer down. Heading towards Mountain Home and hoping to get something on the ground soon. Going with a brother in law since my wife is quite pregnant and "not in the mood" for hunting. No clue what is on the hit list yet.

Saltlick. Not bad.

Saw some monster deer, but I was going for a cull this hunt. This guy finally came in a little before dark and took a while to come out from behind the feeder. When he got clear I put the 6.5 in the shoulder and popped him. Dropped his head and ran 40 yards and crashed. Solid hill country deer I'm happy with. I love typical deer and he was a solid pretty typical buck. My BIL managed to shoot his first deer at the same time and…. he's a doozie…

I know, I know, it's Texas, and he said it was a HF operation, but a comment "...and took a while to come out from behind the feeder.", makes just a small groan come out.

No, I don't hunt with a spear, or leap onto a deer's back, for the kill. Just still relish my Dad showing me how to find game trails, food sources, natural travel paths, etc. Just yesterday I "cleaned up/prepped" a 30+ yr old brush blind, that overlooks a creek bottom.
Hunting season prep that really amps up the excitement (and I'm an old guy).
But I know regardless of methods, being in the woods is an enormous plus.

I bet 95% of hunters on this board hunt over a feeder so it shouldn't be a surprising comment. Next time I'll say "waited a while for my deer to come out from behind an obstacle".

One of the trophy hunters got his buck with his bow today. Huge.

Ehh, I'm sure other people here think the same thing he does. It's nothing personal and all good. Different strokes.

My deer just taped out at 149, the second buck was 187 and the one this morning went 212.

This is actually my biggest buck ever beating last year's out by less than 2", but he's what we were after. Football all day then maybe an axis or whitetail doe. One hunter in camp is still going for a big buck.

Not in the slightest. It is just completely uncalled for on a thread that specifically stated how the hunting style was by the OP. Yet you feel the need to chime in with your holier than thou post…

I don't care how people want to hunt. High fence, low fence, feeder, or fair chase. Doesn't make a damn difference to me because that's THEIR choice. Instead of bickering with other outdoorsman, I just am happy they're outdoors and contributing to our sport.

Does that compute?
