Which is which, and how much more margin are you gaining?

I don't really give a **** if I am being completely honest. This is a "my f-150 can tow 9800lbs, I don't need an f250" type of an argument. You're right, it is capableā€¦ but is one more equipped than the other?

Go with the smaller caliber if you can shoot it better. Outside of potentially spoiled meat or the inability to shoot the rifle accurately because of additional kick, there is not a downside with erring on the side of caution and going with a larger magnum type caliber for large game.

But if you want to cite a ballistics test to the ranches with caliber requirements for large game, go for it. I'll choose the bigger caliber.

I have a Tikka T3x .308 with a Leupold VX3. Highly recommend.

Thanks to all for the input. Went with the Ruger American Ranch 308 and Leupold VX3 4.5-14. And am now going to suppress it b/c why the hell not. Pre-threaded 16.5" barrel is asking for it.

How much, if any, impact do suppressors have on accuracy? Oldest is starting to get old enough for me to get a family kid rifle and I'm curious about this

They will change the POI but a good suppressor will not negligibly affect it. I've shot suppressed over 1000 yards

My experience with teaching/helping kids shoot is that the suppressors help tremendously.....the groupings get better because they don't flinch from the noise anticipation. Kids have a tendency to associate the loud noise with a lot of recoil as well. I have not seen a single kid shoot worse with a suppressor - always better.

The initial point of impact will change probably 2-4 inches but once you get that dialed back to zero you will find the groupings better.

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, chambered in 25-06 + Leupold VX3 in 3.5x10 40mm objective.

Classic wood grain, schnabel fore end. A pass down to kids. An American classic that performs.

Mine likes to be fed regular ol' Remington Core Lokt 120 gr. When sighted in last 5 shots at 100 yds: 4 holes completely covered with a nickel, and the 5th "outlier" was half covered by the same nickel. Almost one ragged hole.
