I don't have a backhoe. I could rent one, but I'm wondering whether tannerite could be effective for beaver dam demolition.

Anyone try that?

What do you suggest to destroy and clear out a beaver dam?

Not specifically tannerite, but I am pretty sure USFWS uses explosives at times to remove beaver dams on bayous in NE Texas.

1. Bye large amounts of tannerite and several filled propane tanks.
2. Practice long range shooting with a large caliber.
3. Make film of said activities.
4. Post on Texags.
5. Become a Texags legend.
6. Profit?

trap or shoot the beaver, then deal with the dam. unless you use enough tannerite to kill everything inside in which case please take a video and post it here

If he's in East Texas, there's a larger chance the beavers have dug into the banks than living in the dam.

Unless the dam is causing flood damage to your property, why destroy the dam and kill the beavers? Wouldn't it be cool to have a beaver dam on your property? There are so few of them left

We have a beaver dam on our creek. It has caused a large pool of water to be backed up but the creek below it still runs as it always had.
Now we have some large small mouths that are in that pool for great fishing. They never were there before as it was way too shallow.
I am glad like heck they built it!

Had some beavers build a dam about 15 feet from a wooden bridge and the dam was destroyed using a backhoe or track hoe, forget which. The beavers built it back. Tore it out again. They then built it under the wooden bridge itself, so it could not be destroyed with equipment or be blown up. Had to tear it apart by hand. But traps were set and the beavers eradicated.

So, unless you remove the beavers, I don't think removing the dam is going to solve your problem long term. They are not hard to trap, but if you don't want to attempt that, you should be able to find some folks who do nuisance trapping and get them to kill the beavers.

Killing beavers was pretty much an every Friday and Saturday night sport back when I was in school.

Also, tannerite, while a lot of fun in the right situation, doesn't have a whole lot of explosive power. You would need a heck of a lot of it to do any significant damage, and you would have to do a lot of work getting it inside the dam in the first place.

I was a bit let down in the explosive/destructive capabilities with it when I used it the first time. Sat a 1lb jar of it at the base of a cholla cactus and set it off thinking that cactus would be no longer of this earth after the explosion. There was noticeable damage done, but aside from a couple of the little barrel leaves and a decent amount of thorns stripped from it - not a whole lot of real damage done.

A 2.5lb jug of it did send an old turkey fryer pot approximately 100' in the air though, that was pretty entertaining.

Some hunters are more successful than others. The rest of us just lie about it.

Taste better if you pluck it a few days before you eat it.
