Those are quite a bit different. The 092 has a vertical circle making it much more capable and retail is more like $450.
The kit comes with a rod. I'd discount it pretty steep if she doesn't have the rod for it.
The standard rod that comes with it is pure garbage. Surveying rod shoudl be in tenths, not inches like those crap rods are. Throw the rod away no matter what.
As a surveyor, I have say, "Just wait until you discover the metric system."
When I first went to work for a design firm about 5-6 years ago, they had a level and rod in the storage closet. None of the younger EIT's knew how to even shoot grade so one day we broke it out and went out to the courtyard area and I showed them how to set it up, level it and went over the basic principles. Easy peasy.
Until I started doing the math after taking a few shots on a short loop and couldn't get anything to come out right. I was the only non-engineer out there, so of course I looked like the typical knuckle dragger contractor that was too dumb to even do math. Until I realized that the rod was in inches and not tenths, which honestly I had never even seen a rod that wasn't in tenths and it never occured to me to look at the measurements and I just started shooting away. Pretty sure at any company I did layout for back in the day if you showed up with a rod that was in inches and not tenths, you'd get beat with that rod as punishment for being stupid.
I threw that rod in the dumpster that day. Eff those rods that aren't in tenths, they are pendejos.
I was able to finally get the math to work correctly.
