Don't live in a red county impacted by an emergency with a Marxist president or VP in charge.

Many won't need that because they won't have any food.

The neighbors part is a good point.

Don't live near Democrats.

Another good reason, probably, for why people should try to live close to their church.

(We've been spitballing ideas for discipleship, and one of the things which came up was finding more ways to use the church building/encouraging people to live near the church and have fellowship outside of church services)

Hey AgLA06,

Regarding this:

  • Small foldable solar panels that power small electronic battery banks for phones / laptops

I was looking into something like this after Beryl, both for myself and my dad.

Do you have any recommendations as far as size, capacity, and brand names? Ideally, it would need to be very easy to use and light weight to move.

Thanks!

If you are still thinking about the above, you should really check out Amazon's Prime Day deals for Ecoflow and Bluetti products.

As far as generators go, this is a company that I found last year at the Annapolis boat show. I talked to the owner for a while, they are US based and trying to source all of their materials in the US....according to them.

I don't know all of the details about them and would welcome some insight from anyone that might know.

A lot of them didn't.

I'd wager a majority of people who ever lived **** themselves to death, starved, got infections and a whole lot of other fun horrible ways to die.

That was as true 200 or 2000 years ago as it will be after FEMA leaves you to die stranded in your small mountain town while they edit their Equity in Rescue DEI awareness powerpoints.

Until we sold it a couple years ago, we had the same farm since 1805, and had pretty much kept every tool.

It was amazing at how many tools it took, even in that era, and how many specialist craftsman.

That toughness is still within us.
And don't think they wouldn't have traded places with us in about 1.5 seconds!

Their Safari appears to have less Wh than a Pecron E2000LFP and is double the Pecron's current sale price of $749.
It does have a 3000W inverter however. But less capacity of storage. I have tried to make myself buy American in the solar generator field but I haven't found them to be competitive yet.

Thanks. All of the sudden my family got interested in being prepared for emergencies in the last few weeks. I have food, water purification & other things....but I'm behind the curve on generators.

Is Pecron a good brand?

If you don't have quite a bit of land and means to control and exploit it, in a major disaster you could be screwed.

You won't be able to shoot fast enough. You will be overrun. This country is about 2.5 weeks of running out of food before the roving mobs scrounge like locusts. Inner city will fall first....then spread outward from there. So 2.5 weeks from society collapse the mobs will start moving to the suburbs....then continue outward to the more rural areas.

Yea I might get found and overrun, but I'll not take the fatalist approach and not give it a try.

That's kind of the point.... unless you are way way out deep into the brush you will lose. It will be your last futile stand for nothing. Any prep within 100 miles of any city center should be what you can survive with on your person to get somewhere way way out and survivable. Have skills to be valuable to a group that is way way out and hope they let you join them. Then help defend that position.

If your preps are located within 100 miles of any large city they will be run thru in days by a desperate mob. Have preps you can take with you and get way way in the brush.

Yea I have preps at ranch near Encinal, 13 miles from pavement. But I also have preps here at home. Along with all my precious metals, gold, silver, lead, and brass.
I have done little about a generator. During icepacylipse we were without power for 5 days straight. It was very quiet. It wasn't difficult to locate the generators.

Not exactly an end of the world scenario, but....

I know several guys that have gone over to Ukraine for various reasons and they have said that the civillians that have faired better have all been near other people.

Not in the big inner cities, but more on the edge ot town/suburbs. They tend to have a "tribe" so to speak.

The problem with that is, knowing who to trust. I have family that I wouldn't want in my "tribe", so that might be difficult to set up in advance.

I got started for Y2K, Things have gotten away from me some in the intervening years, but Since I'm retiring soon, am starting to get back on it.

BTW, if you have Ryobi 18V tools and a lot of batteries, consider their power station.

I also have some greenworks 40V batteries, and they have a power station too.

I guess most of us better get ready for our "Alamos"
Everything east of a line from about Wichita Falls to Del Rio is less than 100 miles from a big city.

Best thing to do is just get as far off the main highways as you can.

Not super long term prep, but we did recently buy half a processed steer. About 230 lbs of packaged beef in the freezer. Of course, it's only as reliable as my generator but it's a good part of an overall plan.

I need to up our stock of freeze dried 25-year food as well as dried food (rice, beans, etc) and canned. Something I hadn't thought much about before is the importance of canned protein and fats. With canned stuff we typically think only of vegetables and fruits.

Mountain House is having a 50% off sale this week on pouches, cans, buckets, etc. Usually free shipping is in effect. I don't think you will find it any cheaper anywhere. Apparently they decided to resurrect the Creamed Beef which hasn't been available in around 15 years.

Edited to mention no tax and it ships free.

If your out in the country your neighbors can be your greatest assets and your worst enemies at the same time.

If your going to be prepared, include influencing ALL of your neighbors to do the same without disclosing ALL of your cards to anyone.

If you have livestock leave some exposed while keeping others close (under security).

Create some giveaway bags in an attempt to deter the needy from returning as violent thieves. Bags should include at least a mini New Testament.

With all the natural disasters happening locally (I'm in East Tennessee about an hour west of all the craziness) as well as those which have happened - (i.e. freeze in Texas a couple years back), as well as current state of world politics, it's got me thinking about emergency preparedness - like a list of items you'd need as well as procedures to use in a a variety of situations.

Does anyone know of a resource which would be all-encompassing that you could use (or, we're the OB, we can make our own!)?

I've got books on these type of things (gardening, hunting, survival, medicinal plants, etc), as our electronics would probably be the first thing to go in a natural disaster/civil unrest. I also have a big garden that needs to be weeded; also have a ton of fruit-bearing bushes and trees.

Thoughts?
