Are these any good? If not, is there a better alternative for this style of cooler?

If you want a soft-sided cooler I have the Yeti backpack hopper and I greatly prefer that.

So the M20?

How long does yours typically keep ice frozen?

$350 for a cooler bag, that's wild.

They're great. Love the magnetic top. So much better than a zipper. But big bucks.

Isn't (or wasn't) RTIC at one point owned by an Ag?

I wouldn't spend my own money on one, I'm sure you could find a cheaper alternative.

However, I was given one and it actually is a really good cooler, and is really convenient.

It's not something I would want to be carrying around all day, someone above mentioned the backpack.

How's the performance? I've heard the M30 will typically keep ice frozen for only 24-36 hours. Is that your experience?

I prefer the M20 as well - the backpack is nice. Easy to tote to the pool, dove field, friends house, etc while keeping your hands free.

Nope. They're Sam guys

The Seiders brothers who founded Yeti are an Aggie and a tech grad. I think Roy Seiders is the Ag and Ryan the tech dude.

Never tried it for that long but it does great for a long day on the boat, in the field, at the beach, or at the ballpark. Had the Rtic backpack and the zippers don't fully seal like the Yeti one so you lose cold faster and if you happen to have it on your back and need to bend over and pick something up a cold stream of water down your back is a wake up call.

I really like my Icemule backpack. I normally just use it for 1-2 days for drinks at the beach/lake/pool, and it works great for that.

Magellan backpack cooler is a heck of a lot cheaper and has never not had something cold when I reached in. Fits between seats in the truck/van, behind drivers seat in the boat, goes to ballgames just fine.

I can by a heck of a lot of ice for the extra $200 for the Yeti. Sure I'm not trying to keep ice cream frozen for a week, but I can generally top off ice at the hotel or at home when using multiple days in a row.

i understand the widely held sentiment on this board of paying that much for a cooler but in my experience Yeti makes a durable product that will last a very very long time.

And if they don't hold up they will replace it. I had a problem with my backpack cooler zipper and they sent me a new magnet top one. it will likely outlast me

I've been looking at the Engel HD30 recently and may pull the trigger.

https://amzn.to/3XhhvQi

I had an RTIC soft 30 (second one) that the zipper blew up on me after only 2 years of moderate use, so I'm done with them. The engel is a little more than the RTIC, but not near as expensive as the YETI and had some of the better performance ratings from a couple review sites I checked out.

Might be worth a look.

I've had the RTIC soft coolers and they were good for a while but in each case the seams all kind of melted and the thing fell apart. And they wouldn't replace it.

Had a problem with the zipper on the first Yeti backpack and they replaced it free of charge. It gets used pretty hard and handles the abuse well.

If I needed a second backpack cooler I would check out Engel but I wouldn't go RTIC.

Yep, just had a conversation this past weekend with a few guys about the rtic vs yeti price and quality differences. We figured it's perfectly fine to roll with the discount brand hard side coolers, they perform about the same and have similar durability, but in the soft side coolers, yeti has way better quality and is likely worth the price difference.

I have an original rtic 65 that still works great, I also bought a rtic soft side 20 that's on its last legs after just some light to medium use. Was fortunate enough to be gifted a yeti soft side 20 and won a yeti hard side 55 on wheels, both great products but I was glad to have spent $0 on them.

I was given the original Yeti Hopper 30 as a gift around 7 or 8 years ago. The zipper on top finally broke earlier this summer. I did a warranty claim on the Yeti website and was given a new M30 as a replacement (no charge). The new M30 with the magnetic top is so much more efficient from a loading/unloading perspective. Great customer service will make me a return customer.

That magnetic top on the Yeti is what sells it for me. Wish one of these other brands would do this. It is strong and convenient.

I pulled the trigger on the M30 and used it this weekend. I also got the yeti ice bricks (large and medium) to go with it. I put 14 lbs of ice in with those yeti ice bricks on Sunday around 10 am with some drinks, and tonight there is still a solid chunk of ice frozen around those bricks even with me draining the water each night. That's at least 38 hours of useable ice, though each night the cooler was indoors. It seems like it is performing well for what it is. I love the magnetic opening. The way they redesigned it allows you to open with one hand, and it stays open without having to prop it open.
