Anyone have additional information in the area? See online reports of 3,000 acres but not sure how contained it is this morning. Our lease is nearby and cousin's ranch is there, near fm 1900 and Hwy 29.

I've gathered that it's north of 29 to the east of the North Art rd. Putting out hot spots now for at least parts of it.

Texas Forest Service is reporting 10% contained at 5:00am. Last the fire was visible and bright, and we're 10 miles south of Mason.

Edit: Multiple fires. TFS describes it as North Art Complex fire.

Not sure if it got to 1900 or not. I think technically it was three separate fires. The one I've gotten updates on seems to be pretty contained. Not sure on the others.

This makes me think a Texags hill county board would be nice. This area doesn't really fit into the other area boards but lots of Ags.

It was really close to at least three houses then if that is accurate.

Way too close to our place but sounds like they are getting it under control.

How did you get onX to show the fire. I can't figure that out. Checking on it as I have a place in Castell. We in clear but I didn't know onX would show fire.

Looks like the NW side of the fire is most active. There is an Air Tactical plane up directing the efforts of 2 Large Air Tankers shuttling from Abilene and spotting for crews on the ground.

Also a new fire reported an hour ago noted initally as Mason 2296. Maybe merged into the North Art fire as a "complex"

Hunt Map Layers in bottom left of screen. Select "Current Conditions" and turn on the "Active Wildfire" tab.

I'm pretty sure there was someone on here that had land just north of three post office. Hope they are okay.

Looks like the nw fire are out. 30% containment on the primary. Evacuating livestock now

I drove from Kingsland to Mason and back this afternoon, the store was the staging area with 3 water tankers and a few brush trucks. There was also a Blackhawk in the air. There was some light smoke on the hills on the west side of the fire, that was it. I'm guessing that the % contained means that they don't have a line around it, the smoldering part that I could see looks like a very small part according to those maps.

Lots of rain in Mason County this evening. I can see the lightning from Junction. Hope it helps with the fire.

LCRA is showing 0.93" for Art. Finally something good for the firemen

4k acres and 70% contained as of now.

Watch Duty is pretty standard out west. You can get it on the computer, but also as an app. You can sign up for alerts also.
https://app.watchduty.org/i/31931

TXFS has their tracker also...
https://tfswildfires.com/public/

not the best, but probably the best status info. Watch Duty will use it as a source, or they both get info from the same source.

Fires are driven by weather, terrain and fuel. High humidity and low winds give a great advantage to firefighters.

% contained can be misleading. It is the amount of established line they have around the fire, but they primarily need to contain the head. The flanks are generally less important and the tail even less so. So a 25% contained may have the fire under control, if it's the head (that's where the resources are going). That could change with a new factor, such as wind picking up and turning a flank into a new head.

Bodie peak fire now? Now it's way too close. What's up with all of the mason county fires this week

Talked to the rancher we lease from yesterday afternoon and it's very dry out there now followed by great grass growth this spring and early summer due to plenty of earlier rains. Thursday night lightning had started the first fires. One a few miles west of Castell and South of the Llano River was luckily put out Thursday night.
