I am using new galvanized 4" square tubing (1/8" thick) for structural supports on a fresh water pond pier. I know that galvanized steel is not bullet proof to corrosion over time, so I would like to add one more layer of protection to make it last as long as possible, hopefully my lifetime.

It looks like there are a lot of DTM paints out there that are meant to apply straight to galvanized. Does anyone have any real-life experience with painting Galvanized? I am looking for something that requires minimal prep work. I know a lot of these are expensive but that's not a deal breaker.

Check out American galvanizers association at galvanizeit.org. I believe there are articles re: paint/galvanize coating systems.

Some stuff called Rust Grip Coating. It provides superior corrosion protection under the harshest conditions such as in salt air, coastal, and marine environments.

I have looked into this, and it looks awesome. However, I had trouble finding where it specifically says that this can be applied directly to new galvanized metal.

I used it on some new galvanized piping including nuts & bolts for saltwater deck. Also used it on some corrals for our show steer pens. Works real good.

I use plain water rated primer for everything exposed to air and about a foot underwater. It's the wet then dry part that rusts and corrodes metal.
