Looking for a very reliable ~600 pound stand-and-fill deer feeder. Varmint-proof, built-in solar panel setup, preferably 12v, consistent timer and reliable spinner system.

Strong recommendations from friends on the Lamco feeders that Tractor Supply *used* to stock and less enthusiastic reviews of the current Treeline brand that they are carrying (#1 replace the timer and #2 the inertia-driven varmint proof spinner is too finicky).

Prefer to find some things in the DFW area (or out 380-West to Jacksboro, 114 to Olney) if possible.

ASF EZ Feeder sold at Bucees fits the bill.

We've had terrible luck with the Treeline feeders and also the Buc-ees EZ Fill feeders. The Treeline just broke a motor shaft in less than a year. Also the spin plate gets bound up ALOT and is unreliable. The Buc-ees feeders would be fine if you can reinforce the wiring. We've had lots of problems with the wires.

I'd go with All-Season's regular stand and fill instead of the Buc-ees ASF EZ fill.

We run 1 ASF stand and fill in mexico and it sucks for throwing corn because cage knocks most down

We run 5 buccees ez feeders and they have all ran well for several years.

I would not get the All season and go with ez feeder.

I'm with you. I've been using one of the ASF Bucees EZ Feeders year-round for several years with no mechanical issues.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The Lamco would be a great option except I don't know where to find it for sale.

For those that have experience with the Bucees ASF EZ fill vs. the "generic" ASF EZ fill, can you elaborate on the differences?

I currently have an older Boss Buck stand and fill and the racoons are destroying it, and there is no real easy way to integrate a solar panel, either. Their newer design looks better ... they have a shallow aluminum pyramid shaped thing covering the wiring from the controlller to the spinner.

I'm trying to use this to improve the existing BB feeder but I need something reliable to deploy while it is at my house under repair.

I'll take pics of the ASF Bucees/non-Bucees Stand and fills as I'm here at the ranch. I'll post them up tomorrow when I get home.

Here's the one not sold at Bucees.

MB Ranch King & The Judge feeders have been bulletproof for me.

EZ Fills have been surprisingly low maintenance.

Treeline from Tractor Supply has been garbage.

There is a poster on here that I think still has a 600lb and/or a 1000lb ASf for sale.

I have one of the 600# feeders and will be moving all of my feeders to stand n fill 600/1000 over the next couple of years.

Spinner plate and how the corn is distributed is one of the biggest differences. The ASF has a much more protection around the spinner plate than the Bucees model. Not saying Bucees isn't good, just that a welded cage around the perimeter of the entire feeder is pre ideal, in my opinion.

Running one of these this year. Need to get it set up still so can't comment on performance just yet.

Texas wildlife supply hands down……don't go aluminum and don't go buccees (wires are exposed and rats will eat wires)

A bunch of people around San Angelo have started buying the GreenGo feeders out of Brownwood. They have a 400# and 800# size though, no 600.

Thanks. The ASF not at Buccees is similar to the Boss Buck that I'll be bringing home for repairs - except that it has the solar panel built in as well as the excellent design addition of the pyramid-shaped varmint protection tucked under the spinner motor box. Also, it has The Timer which is a significant upgrade, too.

I'll look at the first two ... where did you purchase?

EZ fill ... are you running the Buccees version?

Disappointing that TS chose to sell something that isn't as reliable as the Lamco.

TTHA Ag ... thanks - I searched the Classifieds and Outdoors forums but did not find the ASF feeder for sale. If you have the direct link, would appreciate it.

Aggie Hunter, thanks for the tip on TWS and agree about exposed wires. Racoons are the problem in our area but I'm sure the rats and squirrels can get up in there. The rodents tend to stay closer to the water and there's an old rock quarry near my area that serves as home for most of the rattlesnakes, lol.

For what it's worth, I'm planning on improving the boss buck feeder (from buccees) that I have now with some heavy duty shrink wrap:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VQ6VRG8/?th=1

Dirty-8-thirty Ag, thanks for the advice and looks like GreenGo is sold by J-and-L which also has a location in Cisco, TX which about an hour from my deer blind. For what its worth, they also have a place in Cross Plains to serve the Panhandle.

What've you heard from folks running them?

For what it's worth, the J-and-L price list includes a fairly impressive array of options including GreenGo, ASF and Texas Wildlife Supply options and there are six other brands as well:

J and L Huntin Store
1306 interstate 20 West, Cisco, Texas 76437

Try to collate more information I find in one post/reply ... The Judge feeders as well as ASF feeders are sold at J & N Feed & Seed in Graham which is close to our ranch:

Finally, reposting an earlier reply with the ASF Stand-and-Fill versus ASF EZ Fill that is sold at Buccees:

@CloneBucky: A lot of my buddies love theirs and have gone to exclusively those. Admittedly I haven't messed with them myself, so this is just me passing along second hand knowledge from a handful of friends. They look sturdy in the pics I've seen on their website.

Between the two plates they have a hole so that rats can get into housing where battery/timer is they will make nest inside as well. We had 6 in Webb county and got tired of fixing them they all went to the dump. Running 14 texas wild supply (with cows) and never had an issue. They are solid.

We are on season 3 with 4 of the academy 720lb stand and fill feeders. All have been running great. Only repair was replacing a solar panel after an empty feeder got knocked over by a massive boar.

This 1000 times. Over the 28 years we had our ranch we literally have had almost every brand cause we had lots of feeders that ran 24/7/365 and multiple years.
Texas Wildlfe Supply are hands down the best. But only my opinion……and like butts….Everybody has one.

Interesting that you had exposed wire/rat issues with the six EZ Feeders that you sent to the landfill.

I'll stand by my earlier comment. Perhaps your issue was due to an earlier version of the feeder that has since been improved?

As the following photo shows, between the two plates there is a metal sleeve covering the wires to keep any rat, much less a mouse, from getting to the hole and into the housing where the battery/timer is. There's a 3/16" gap between the sleeve and the bottom of the hopper where the battery and timer sit. No rat is compromising that gap.

Additionally, the hole where the wire comes into the housing, as seen in this pic, is about a half inch. With the aforementioned sleeve, there's no way a rat is getting into that hole to access the housing.

There are plenty of mice and rats in Duval County where I'm running one fo these. In my experience, nothing has accessed the housing to chew wires and build nests. Simply because the wires are not exposed between the plates.

I loved my Texas Wildlife Supply 600# feeders. They were bullet proof survived being blown over empty, had a tree fall on one, never needed repairs nothing more than a scratch on it, only maintenance performed was light dusting of solar panel and checking the eliminator plate was on tight 1/season. Just kept on running. Buck Stop has some I believe. I got mine at Argyle Feed Store years back.
