I don't think there is any harm in this as long as it is not to excess. Those suckers are lying on the ground everywhere and she can spot one or hear one buzzing and makes a mad dash for it.

My dog would eat flies. One time a bunch got in the house and we killed them all and he ate probably 50 of them and had diarrhea later but yea I dont think it ought to hurt them (disclaimer: not a vet)

Had a Lab that ate June bugs by the gallon. Interesting looking poop but way fine. She was a vacuum cleaner in the garage

My collies mostly go through a stage as pups where they love to eat June bugs, but a year or two of puking them up and they get over it and stop.

My lab loves cicadas as well and has eaten many of them with no noticeable issues. He holds them in his mouth while they buzz for a few seconds and then eats them.

My dog ate a few the other night that I noticed. She was catching them as the were buzzing around the back porch light and would pick them off when they got too low.

We had them like crazy in late May/early June here in the midwest and my dog would feast on them. It upset her belly a couple of times but that was about it.
