Last minute trip to Bolivar. I don't really surf fish. In fact my saltwater fishing experience is pretty limited. Looking for what I need to pick up at academy to dip a line in the intercoastal and maybe some canals. Of course, I'm all set up for fresh water. Any tips or tricks or advice is appreciated. Just don't love the beach but I do love some fishing.

Alot of the stuff you have for freshwater will work for saltwater. Jig heads with plastics, Texas rigged. Rapala skitterwalks. Top water baits in general. Crankbaits of various diving depths. Gold or silver spoons.

BE CAREFUL

Rip currents have been pretty strong lately with a couple of drownings here recently

Use a Carolina rig with cut mullet or piggy perch.

Don't touch the catfish. Use pliers and shake them off.

Johnson gold or silver minnow fished in the slack water between the sandbars.

Or if its not windy and you want to fish an ultra light rig then a white rooster tail just heavy enough to cast.

I wasn't able to take advantage of this but had a lovely conversation. Hope somebody can fill the vacancy.

Tandem rig with jig heads and yellow Gulps, one leg longer than the other. Bounce it off the bottom for flounders all day long.

I just found out today that I'll be staying in Jamaica Beach on a canal house 6/8 & 9. Let me know if you have a cancelation next weekend. We might be up for getting my boys out for a quick morning trip. (Username @ g m a i l)


I would LOVE to fish with you one of these days, and show my boys what saltwater fishing really is (not meaning we catch a bunch, just have a good time with it). Have been out with them twice with another popular charter in Galveston, and the experience was… lacking...

If the salt doesn't work out, the canal that runs between 87 and the beach used to be freshwater and a decent bass spot.
