How long do you want to ignore this user?
Long story but I sort of inherited a directional feeder from our trapper that needs a new motor/spinner plate (whole lower unit) on it but I am having hell finding where to get it. I called the number but it goes to a personal number that has no clue who BA products is. I figure someone on here might be able to help.

Feeder:

It's probably a 100-150lb capacity and it's a directional throw. I'd like to refurbish and used outside a pen or two to intentionally hold hogs for a kid to shoot. Current motor/spinner plate just drops corn below the feeder and doesn't spin it out.

If someone has experience with these and maybe how to fix, your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Unless it's a spinner plate that's specially designed for a directional feeder, you should be able to replace with a standard motor and plate combo.

Make sure the problem isn't the wiring before you tackle it.

Had one where wire broke in the conduit that solved the issue.

They were great feeders in their day.

Have had to replace the timers but never a motor. Did have some propeller issues but was able to reuse it after finding the right size set screw.

If you find parts let me know where. I think I bought a generic motor thinking I needed it but got by with wire so far.

Unfortunately, It's not the wiring. I've got all new equipment in there less the motor but I can't really access the motor easily. It's almost like the spinner plate and/or the funnel lead into the spinner plate isn't right.

I'd prefer to keep it directional since it would basically just be a hog feeder in front of pen. Appreciate the insight

Bad news for you here, BA Products is long gone. The original owner who developed the feeder you have sold out to two young guys in the early 90's as he was going bust. It was primarily a sheet metal operation and they made pretty good feeders. Those two young guys started going overseas to China, sales tanked and they sold out to Wildgame Innovations in Louisiana. They in turn merged with GSM Outdoors located in Irving, Tx. Today all they have in the line are some cameras and junk plastic barrel feeders with plastic timers. No hope on parts from them.

You might check the spinner where it mounts on the motor shaft with a set screw. If that is loose the motor will turn but no corn is thrown out. Also, the plastic hanging there on front opening was a cover the flipped up as feeder runs, then dropped down to keep coons from accessing the corn. Yours is broken in half. The spinner may be broken as well, metal fatigues and breaks. Take it to a sheet metal guy and he can fabricate a new one easily if that is the problem.
So three conspiracy theorists walk into a bar.................You can't convince me that's a coincidence.

See the picture better now. I bet your set screw is either loose or totally missing. Go to any hardware store with the aisles of bins of bolts and misc stuff. New Braunfels farm and ranch is where I got my replacement set screw. If it is putting corn out at all, then the motor may be OK.

If the set screw is out or loose, the propeller blade can be slid to the left and off the motor shaft to take it out.

I have that exact same feeder. I have had it for almost 30 years, and the motor still works well. I am planning to add a section to the top to double the capacity, because you are correct, it only holds 150 lb. I do not know the specifics, but you can buy a motor at almost any good feed store to replace it. The spinner is quite unique, and you'd either have to have one custom made, or re-furb the existing. If I choose not to use mine, and you are interested in it, I'll let you know.

EDIT: It is also supposed to have a little swing "door" over the front of the discharge that keeps animals from pilfering feed at will. The door on mine is missing too, but I do plan on replacing it.

Yeah, I knew the swing door was missing and the coons were very grateful it wasn't on there. I am actually debating just fabbing it to put a standard broadcast feeder on it since I cannot find the parts to fix this anywhere and the company is no longer in business that made it.

Probably overkill since this would only be used as a feeder outside of a feed pen for hogs - that I am not sure I really want living there anyways, but I like targets to shoot.
