Brazos River Authority just posted this:

"The release from LAKE LIMESTONE's Sterling C. Robertson Dam was increased from 1,420 cubic feet per second to about 5,160 cfs at 7:55 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Expect additional increases to the release in the next several hours."

I do not know how that compares to historical release volumes, but the Navasota river bed typically leaves its banks, with very little runoff upstream.

That's a lot of release on top of current gauge levels. Forecast highs in the 90s a week from now, plus high water....could be a good gar spawning event.

Seems early in the season, but maybe.

Was just looking at the gauges earlier. Waters been in and out of the banks at my place a few times in recent weeks but nothing major. Brazos is up and rising. Guess I need to get off my rear and go run some lines.

How big do they have to be to spawn? When the river floods late, I get a ridiculous number of 4-5ft gator gar. To the point that they'll kill every catfish on a line. Don't really mind because the kids get a kick out of catching them on rod and reel.

I'm not entirely sure on the size/age front for alligator gar. I have read in several sources that spawning events are more likely in flowing water outside of the channel.

The lake is full, they have to start releasing water. Moving over 43,00 cfs right now. I get the alerts on my phone, been getting them all night

Lot more rain below the lake last night. Looking like my deer feeders setup to not flood, might flood.

Lake Livingston dam release is currently 105,800 cfs. Record is 110,000. Polk and Liberty County along the Trinity had big rains this morning continuing now. I guess all the April rains in the Dallas area had the river and lake already full.
Updated at 10am to 109,400 cfs. Hope Liberty doesn't flood. New dams were built after the 94 flood and they did the job during Harvey in 2017.

We're upstream of Limestone on the Navasota - never seen the water higher. There was a train that was derailed because of high water out of the Navasota near Plummers creek.

KBTX reporting Hwy 7 west of Marquez closed because the river is over the bridge. Don't remember that happening before.

Hope everyone will be ok and safe.

Wish some of this could have hit in the Hill Country to fill up the Highland Lakes.

This is the craziest lake gauge hydrograph I've ever seen. It'd even be crazy for a river, but it's the lake gauge.

Yeah it isnt working. I guess got so full giving a false output because lake is still high!

I'm not trying to say it's accurate that the lake fell 10 feet in 12 hours. But I bet there were some draw down physics at work with the gauge being located near the release point that made this happen. Crazy in any case.

Gotcha, there were people that thought the lake level dropped 5 ft on lake linestone facebook page. So my immediate thought was, "here we go again" so my apologies

Another big rain upstream last night. Looking like portions of the Navasota are going to go a couple feet over previous all time records.

Yep had another big line move through last night with some decent hail. I saw some USGS vehicles on the navasota bridge where it crosses hwy 79 outside of Marquez this morning and they were measuring how close the water was to the top of the bridge.

Based of peoples docks I would guess yesterday it was at least a foot over full pool elevation.

The peak was 2.21 feet high according to the sensor at the marina which wasn't affected by the opening of the flood gates.
