Saw our neighbor leaving at the same time as me earlier and he called me over to tell me something. He said that there has been a cat crossing back and forth between their place and ours. They set up a camera where they suspected it was crossing and got the below pic.

Pretty sure it's just a house cat that got loose, but without seeing the whole body I'm having a hard time ruling out bobcat.

What say you folks?

Is this a bobcat? Or a run-of-the-mill housecat?

Big kitty. He needs a strand of gaucho predator barbed wire at the bottom under the stay-tuff net wire. To keep his kitty in.

Anyone know how to hunt these things?

Would they come to like a fawn distress coyote call?

Definitely. Hang a ribey around your neck for good measure.

And definitely put a game camera / video camera pointing at you for us please.

I've got a guy, recommended from this board, that runs dogs out of Bracketville.

As far as calling them in, I don't think it's something you can really do successfully. These things roam so much that even when they're on camera and you have dogs out less than 24hrs, there's not much sign.

Good luck though and record your attack…err.. I mean attempt!

Clinto Brown or B/B Ranch Hounds group would be my calls if wanting to use dry ground dogs.

Green Machine that's posts on here every once in a while is from Del Rio where I'm from, he called one in during the west tx big bobcat contest a few years ago in NW Val Verde County.

I hunted a blind about 9 hours after a cat was caught on camera and was hoping to pick it up on the thermal…. No such luck. Hopefully you have success!

I talked with my game warden cousin and confirmed it with a biologist. That's a yellow lab.

That's interesting because the folks on Nextdoor told me it was a Lynx; however, there was a small minority that referred to it as "brown phase black panther"

We had one many years ago cross our county road at our gate while I was opening the gate. When he got to our high fence he easily climbed and went over the top with one bound like it was nothing.
They can go over easy and don't need to go under.

Well, the OP pic is surprisingly a no doubter. Cool to see one out there keeping the game population wild and healthy.

First off, that's a really cool picture.

You can absolutely call them in, though, like others have said, it's not nearly as simple as trying to call in a coyote or a bobcat because of their tendency to roam.

I called one in when I was a freshman in high school. I also was extremely lucky because two had been in the area for a few days mating. So I got lucky with time and place. Got down from the blind late one morning and was walking around when I noticed several tracks. Pretty sure I walked right past the thing in the brush. Freaked me out real good, for sure haha. Immediately got back in the blind and started calling and out came kitty. 30 seconds after I shot my grandfather pulled up to pick me up. Like I said, very lucky with time and place and timing…oh ya, and not being breakfast haha.
