Zero-turn mower-Replacing Std Tires with solid "flat free" tires

Does anyone have any experience doing this? If so, did it work well?

I have a 2018 cub cadet zero turn riding lawn mower (42 inch). I use it about 40 times a year to mow my 2 acre lawn in driftwood. The front tires are still holding air, but are starting to split. New tires are each about $120. But I can get a pair of solid rubber tires with hubs for $60.

So, which way should I go?

Might ride a little rougher and put a little more stress on your suspension/ axles but…
I never have done it on my zero turn but did it on my skid steer and it definitely rides rougher but no more flats to fix.

I thought about doing this on my old mower, but I was concerned about it riding rougher than it already does. I just put tubes in the front tires and that solved my problem with them holding a bead.

You can always put Slime in your tires if you are worried about flats. I haven't had a flat in decades with it.

As others have said, the solid rubber tires would ride rougher.

Did this. Had trouble finding the exact tires for my JD on Amazon so ended up ordering from the factory direct. Had for two seasons now. Wonderful with no flats. JD wants to sell new rims when the tire gives out and that adds up.

Only thing to watch out for is had to add lube to the bearings before use. If you don't grease them up the bearings go out easily from what I read.

I don't understand why the replacement tires are $120 each. ? It looks like your rims are fine and I would be hesitant as well with solid tires due to making it a rough ride. If you have any thorns out there keep them tubeless and put some goop in the new ones.

I have a >20 year old LandPride zero turn.
I replaced front tires with solid tires about 5 years ago.

Never noticed any difference in ride roughness or speed.

However if you want a very smooth and extremely fast zero turn , replace yours with a Ferris zero turn. Coil suspension is very comfortable and a very fast machine.

I bought a Ferris ISX 800 last year and seldom drive it- my wife has so much fun she mows every week.

My John Deere zero turn came with solid front tires but I've got the tweels on the back tires. It rides great and is nice not having to worry about flats. Plus the tweels in the back are nice because of the extra traction.

I replaced the front tires on my 61" Scag with solids and never noticed any difference in ride quality. This is an easy decision, in my opinion.


Keeping the front tires inflated is not as easy as just adding slime. They constantly get grass and dirt between the wheel and rubber.

I have a JD Z970R with 72"deck. It is very fast.

I have tweels in the rear.
Also tweels in the front. In addition I have the ZGlide front torsion caster arms.

Those along with the full suspension seat is as good a ride as you can get.

Just get the tires. If you are in doubt if the rims are good, take them to a tire shop and get their opinion.

Its not a bro-mobile you are trying to bling out.
