Some buddies and I were going to drop some kayaks in next weekend and do some fishing. Any recommendations on tackle/technique/other?

we used zoom fluke Jr and green pumpkin grubs - we were camping in park in July and wade fished the area up above the main swimming pool and killed them.

I use green/orange gold bladed rooster tails, small green or black or white curl tail jigs, rebel teeny craws, and crawfish jigs, and catch lots of bluegill and bass there.

Lots of the fish will be in quite shallow and moving water, the Guadalupe bass behave like trout.

The park gets a Ton of fishing pressure so areas that are harder to reach by swimmers are best to fish.

So true - you will catch fish in the current breaks - tree trunks , rocks and eddies. Most of the slack water areas are going to be perch and largemouth. Love catching guads out of the current

Saw some very large bass last weekend upstream of the bend at rock beach before it dumps in to the swimming hole

Thanks for the pointers. I have wanted to fish that river for 20 years.

Probably close to this area, there is a creek on the other side that was full of bass. Have to fish it from the river as the bank on the other side is private.

But there was also a guy working his way along the tree roots in the swimming area catching bass on a black worm

You wanna see something cool, put on a mask and snorkel and watch them. You can see where they like to hide, under the roots, rocks, down in the deep cuts in the riverbed. Def gives you a different perspective

Yeah, when I was a kid and the river flow was greater, we'd put on a mask and snorkel and basically float downstream underwater sort of like the tubers would. We'd stay under unless we had to get up to walk a shallow riffle, and go all the way down the river through the park.

Flukes and baby brush hogs

Natural colors.

In line spinners also work great for a mix of panfish and bass.

Bring a fly rod if you've got one.

Going on Sunday with one of my sons. Anyone fished it the past few weeks?

Flukes and plastic worms worked good. Just watch out for the people.

Tried below the dam in old garner, too crowded with swimmers. Had success upstream from the dance pavilion.
