Howdy! Just got a text from a friend that has family up in Wisconsin. A group of guys are wanting to come down to Texas for an aoudad hunt. They were asking about any reputable outfitters in Texas that they could spend a few days with. I wasn't sure about aoudad specific...guessing Hill Country or West Texas?

Any help is appreciated!

I can't help with outfitters, but I think the first question is what kind of hunt are they looking for?

Out in West Texas it seems to be more like western hunting the mountains for big game. Glassing and spot and stalk. Hill Country and can be more blind / feeder type of hunting.

Oh, and make sure they understand the expectations for the meat.

For a true Western style hunting experience I would go with either Roy Hurley with the Sproul Ranch, B/B Ranch Hounds out there on the Espy, or with Jim Breck Bean and his outfit, High West Outfitters & their 2 million leased acres.

They all kill absolute monster sheep.

I see you went with the cheap options that don't list their prices online!

They are probably some of the most reputable outfitters in West Texas. I'm sure they are all priced around 5-6k. Seems to be what most West Texas Aoudad hunts go for.

Another guy that I don't know personally but he seems to kill lots of big sheep is Calan Ahrens.

West Texas for a true poor man's sheep hunt experience. They're all over the hill country though if that's not important.

There's a guy I know and worked with in college, Robert Byars, that's guiding some hunts out there right now and they killed a really nice ram the day before last. I can share his contact if you want.

Roy Hurley also kills some damn good sheep on the ranch he guides for but I just know him from LinkedIn - not personally.

Trying to get more info...but I believe they are more interested in a laid back, fun experience. Early 40s in decent shape, but probably not wanting to hike miles and miles.

Thank you for the responses so far!

El Sapo, he has some large rams with choices of various properties with varying difficulty levels.

I passed along those West Texas outfitters.

Any Hill Country/more laid back outfit recommendations?

Give Ross Coffey at Great American Hunting Services a call. Been before and put me on the sheep. Robert guides with him.

Forgot about Ross, was at A&M when his little sister and brother were there. Good friend of mine neighbor's the Coffey's out there around Marfa.

I like the username. I lived in the trailer hood as well, on Ridgewood over by Habib's and the pool.

This place is on Texas Hunting Forum. User name is Mulie_Mike.

Seems like a lot of hunters are happy with him.

He looks kind of booked up on the site, but frequently solicits for opening when he has a cancellation or opening on Texas Hunting Forum. He offers multiple options. Might be worth an email.
TexAgs: as long as we have each other, we will never run out of problems.

One time Ridge Run resident here during my first A&M try in '04-'05. Actually one of my favorite of many places I lived in B/CS.

Small world…lived in Ridge Run around that same time frame as well. Received most of my college "education" in the trailer park.

I remember Kristin in the black BMW, the Jost brothers, and the guy across the street with the 3/4 ton Chevy who had a pontoon boat on Lake Conroe. Any of that ring a bell?

I worked with Rowdy on a Desert Bighorn Sheep project back in grad school. Great guy and has forgotten more about wild sheep then most people will ever know.

Check out Texican Outdoors (Instagram)/ Bryan Fisher. I went with a buddy in January. We put down a a 35" and 36" ram. Saw over 150 sheep on 30k acre ranch. Truly incredible experience. Property butts up against the Pecos River. Let me know if you want his contact info (don't want to post his cell)
