Looking for recommendations for a decent EDC pocket knife with clip, preferably in the $100-$200 range. I have plenty of Benchmade knives, including the Bugout, so no need to mention those. Can be flipper or thumb stud. Any recs greatly appreciated.

If you haven't tried a Spyderco, I would recommend that you give one try. If you like a larger EDC, consider the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight w/S110V steel (they come in other steels too). Easy to deploy, easy to retract. You get a lot of blade and hand-filling capability for the light weight. IMO, few knives can give you this much capability for this low amount of weight.

If you like a smaller, but not *small* EDC, try the Spyderco Sage 5 Lightweight. One of my favorite 3" folders in your price range. The Spyderco Para 3 is also about the same blade length and OAL, but I prefer the esthetics of the Sage a bit more. I love my Benchmades, but if I could only have one pocketknife in your price range, this would be it.

If you want a small EDC, then consider the Spyderco Persistence Lightweight w/S35VN steel.

If you just gotta have a flipper, consider the Zero Tolerance line. The 0450 is a great EDC sized knife, and has a very good flipping action. Comes in several variants. The 0707 is supposed to be pretty good too, but I don't have one of these. They are now lower in price than they used to be.

If you want something that is a little more unusual, check out the Demko AD20.5 in its many variations. The locking mechanism is a lot different than other knives, but supposedly it works pretty well. I have not used one of these, so I can't give you an evaluation on them. But they do seem to be very popular.

I like the idea of the double edge so that no matter how they grab you can cut the arm and get distance.

Had a customer give me one of these for Christmas. Will damn near fling out of your hand the first time you open it, but I love it now.

I grapple enough that I'm not worried about getting grabbed and the single edge is good enough to get out from under anybody. I don't like not carrying but I feel naked without the clinch pick.

Just curious…how many EDC knives does one need? I mean if you don't carry the same knife every day, how can it be an EDC? I simply replace mine every 5-6 years and pass the old one along. Current is a Benchmade Casbah auto in blue.

It's not a matter of "need". You will most likely come to understand that once you grow up.

I'm a fan of Spyderco. The muscle memory on a spyderco sticks with you over time. Probably had a dozen or so over the years. You can get a slightly different variant but the ergonomics feel the same. Spydercos are flatter against the body than most designs. Also tend to be light. A fan of the half serrated edge/ Will chew through anything with minimal effort. Good all around design if you using it for work.

Exceed designs folding utility knife. Really nicely made, "gentleman's knife" profile, but quite useful.

I have others but I seem to use my lowly Kershaw as an EDC. I think have a great opening mechanism.

Benchmade mini Bugout weighs 1.5 ounces. Other similar sized blades are twice the weight. I'll occasionally carry a ZT or syderco but I've gotten used to the lightest and heavier knives I now find annoying for edc. I keep a hunting knife in the truck door pocket for when I need a bigger blade.

Yep. Reminds me of the old saying, "beware the man with one gun"

Go home if you see him at the range, he'll probably accidentally shoot you.

I never carry my Benchmade because I'm afraid I'll lose it. I knew I'd do that when I bought it, but I did it anyway. My Gerber Gator goes with me everywhere. I hope I don't lose it, but if I do I'll just get another one. I really like that knife.

I'd second the LW Manix 2. Mine is S110V as well, but all of Spyderco's steels are well treated. Got a drawer full of folders and carry this the most.

Ive carried a benchmade bugout for years. Just picked this up about 4 months ago. I carry the tekto most of the time now and it's been great. Hasn't seen a ton of use and abuse. Great edge, lightweight and comfortable though.

The first week I started taking Jiu Jitsu, I realised immediately how you are absolutely not going to be able to get a pocket knife out, then open, then use it.

I too carry the clench pic now. I met John Lovell and had a conversation about it with him as well.
