Anyone bought a bag within the last week? What's the current price? I am considering a boil later this month but will pass if prices are still 2x than normal.

Boyd's has been my go to for years and they just sent a text for $4.44 /lb for field run. Sorry broke ass aggie, no boil for you.

They are always cheaper in Bryan and even cheaper in Houston. We are too far away I. Austin. I have a big boil in April every year and my buddy runs them from Bryan. Or I get lucky and have to work in Beaumont the week before.

Worst crawfish harvest in something like 30 years. Saying to expect smaller bugs and much higher prices. First time I've ever seen crawfish not available during Mardi Gras due to the shortage and price. Good news is prices are expected to fall, bad news is they're still expected to be 2x the price of last year at the bottom.

Hopefully the prices come down somewhat after Easter.

Estimating something like $180 million in losses in a $300 million dollar industry so yeah really a terrible combo of forces on these poor farmers.

drought AND the freeze we had early January hurt as well. Mostly the drought though.

I paid $10.50 per pound cooked last week. That was all crawfish (other than onion) no corn, mushrooms, etc.

I have been seeing a lot that this is over blown. They had a drought but not a kill. I am hearing late short season. We have been blessed with an early and long season for several years now.

$180 million in loses for $300 million industry kinda speaks for itself. Over blown to you and me…maybe, but not to the people trying to make a living. Those are wipeout farm kinda numbers. As the article states, things are improving, but that's 100% relative to how bad they are now.

We will see if those numbers are real. I hope they are not but I don't know. I hope we are flooded with crawfish in a couple months.

My point is I don't remember being able to get crawfish before mid February south or central Texas until more recent years. Last year they were available in early December.

$7lb in DFW. my supplier just texted me and apologized for the prices he's charging but he has to. said there is no inventory and high demand.

My guy's prices have been high but coming down. I cooked several sacks last year and usually do at least a couple per year. I'm probably going to sit out this time.

A severe and prolonged drought last summer/fall across most of the crawfish production areas of Louisiana and southeast Tx is responsible for the extremely low numbers harvested, hence the high prices. The drought killed a lot of broodstock in burrows and hampered reproduction as well as delayed normal floodup periods this past fall. Crawfish numbers are slowly recovering, but it will not be a normal season by any means.

There's a ton of crawfish on my property if the giant mounds are any indication. Maybe I should just try and catch them for my next boil

The fact that Boyd's was selling live for $3.88/lb yesterday is a good sign. I'm not buying the complete doom and gloom. Sure it's a down year, but like someone else said 20 years ago you didnt see crawfish for sale until the end of February or early March.

Just got word from my guy that prices are now down to from $7.00 to $5.75 a lb.

Nope. Up in the Metroplex. This guy is out of Rockwall, but services the DFW area.


Typically y'alls prices and availability is much better down there, so thats good, but I'm not sure thats the case this year.

One thing I did see that may explain the prices down there is that apparently S. Louisiana had it much worse than central and north LA and our supplies up here would obviously come from the North end of the state. Not 100% sure, but just relaying what I heard.
