Awesome. I'm growing onions for the first time. I read to not fertilize them for the last month to stress them to cause the bulb to form. Do you change watering habits as well at this time?
we typically only fertilize upon initial planting.

as far as watering we water up until they start falling over then its time to start picking.

Is there any particular line I should run from a frame for tomatoes or will some good ole polypropylene line work?
Sea Speed

Just did polypropylene and planted some tomatoes. It is crunch time for me. Ran out of hardware cloth with about 2 square feet left to go. Go figure. Putting up that hardware cloth was miserable. Will finish it this evening.

Here is what I have planted so far. Everything was planted in early February. Some from starts and some from seeds:

4 Cherokee Purple Tomatoes
2 Beefsteak Tomatoes
3 Early Girl Tomatoes
2 Jalapeno's
2 Serrano's
12 or so Boston Pickling Cucumbers
12 or so Pointsett 76 Cucumbers
40 or so Early Contender Green Beans (Still have about another 40 to plant)
12 or so Straightneck Squash
17 zillion Radishes

The tomatoes take up a ton of real estate in my beds. If they don't do well this year I am done with the tomatoes (I say this every year). I highly recommend the Contender green beans. Every year I get crazy production out of them and they almost all germinate. I stagger my plantings so I don't get 17 jillion green beans at once.

No squash for me this year. Damn borer things got me the last couple years. Son talked me into eggplant. I don't know anything about that. Guess I will find out.

Eggplant is a cool plant and usually does very well. My problem was figuring out how to cook it without a crap ton of mozzarella to make it halfway decent.

I space out my floral plants (marigolds, flowers, etc) around my vegetables that are more prone to insect damage. It seems to help.

I put sunflowers and marigolds in one planter box but also put marigolds all around the rest of the garden as well. I'm going to start about a dozen more amd some other flowers and throw them around as well.

went by rainbow gardens in SA after a Dr apt yesterday and we picked up some bell pepper and tomato 6 packs as well as some squash, zucchini, cantaloupe, radish and jalapeno seeds. Wanted some jalapeno 6 packs but they were sold out.

Sliced thin and chicken fried. Squash is still the king though.

Probably my favorite places to get plants but since you're in SA, if you want another place, King Feed in canyon lake has an awesome selection last year and good prices. They had stuff I'd not seen before.

Eggplant is a cool plant and usually does very well. My problem was figuring out how to cook it without a crap ton of mozzarella to make it halfway decent.

Our favorite way to eat eggplant is to slice it in 1/4 - 1/2 inch planks, and then crosswise strips. Put on a parchment lined sheet tray, drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper, and then roast in the oven. I can eat the whole sheet pan myself.

Squash Vine Borer has been my nemesis for years, yet I kept trying. I had major success last year by wrapping the stems with tinfoil. I started at the base and then wrapped about 6-8 inches up.

Selecting a good variety works too. Nimba zucchini are highly resistant to squash vine borers.

Going to be tilling up a garden for the first time in a few weeks. Have a brand new rear tine tiller. Any helpful tips or tricks or anything to be aware of? This will be my first in ground garden. Done lots of raised beds before.

Be aware of rocks. Till, let some of the grass die for a few days, till a couple of days later. Till one direction and then till the other direction.

If there is grass, take a weedeater to it first and cut it as close to the ground as possible. Thoughts and prayers if it's at Augustine. Those runners are the worst

Planting my apartment balcony herb garden this weekend. Basil, Thyme, Sage, and Rosemary

Also trying Jalapenos, Serranos, and Habaneros this year. Any tips on growing peppers would be appreciated. I have heard they can take a long time to germinate.

Enough of a "garden" for me to be included on this thread?

Peppers and tomatoes = big, individual pots for best results. 8-10 gallon minimum. Think about how far folks space them in a garden. Imitate it.

Salsa garden is planted: 10 tomato plants and 4 jalapeno plants.

Went with what produced the most last year:
Super Sweet 100s x4
Better Boy x3
Cherokee Purple x3

Today I finally planted the garden. Better late than never.
Pulled weeds, added top soil and compost, tilled and planted the following from sprouts
Better Boy x1
Early Girl x1
Beefsteak x2
Bushy Kale x6

From seeds
Collards x3
Pickle bush cucumbers x6
Burpless cucumbers x5
Several dill seeds in large tub (still had one plant alive from winter)
Zucchini x2
Summer Squash x1
Jalapenos: (technically didn't plant. The last few years I just let the unused peppers on the bush fall in the winter and let nature do its thing. They always come back more than I know what do do with)

Chives: Made it through the winter so I just added a little new potting soil and left them alone.

Excited about the tip to put foil on squash stems to prevent bore beetles. They have destroyed my squash the past two seasons. TexAgs knows things.

Still working on mine. Laying out my drip system take a little time, but...

So far I've planted:
32' of cucumbers including Diva, Summer Dance, and National Picking
16' Blue Lake Superior green beans
50' of dark green zucchini, Grand Prize F1 Squash, Sebring Golden Zuch.

To be planted:
200' Bodacious Sweet Corn
125 tomatoes including Better Boy, Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Celebrity, and Sweet 100
50 peppers which are mostly all varieties of Bells
100' of Watermelon/spaghetti squash/Cantaloupe

I have to work a bit tomorrow, but if I get home soon enough, I'll pick this task back up. It will probably be a task for Monday or Tuesday though.

What zone? Also curious how many years have you done this? I've always rotated nightshades between two different beds (2 different 3x8 raised beds so small space and seems to help with disease)

I live just outside of College Station. I usually pick however many I want to can before the first freeze. Let the peppers fall off on their own then pour a bag of potting soil over the remains in Feb. I wish the rest of my garden was as easy as jalapeños. Maybe I have just been lucky. Who knows?

All together? Many of those have different growing periods and ideal temperatures. If you learn the cool vs hot temperature plants you can get a crop of one during the cool period and then put in the hotter weather after them in the same location.

I don't really have any pics of the 'whole' garden, because, it's not that exciting. It's 6-11 rows and I leave 9' between them (except for corn rows) so I can work, harvest, and cultivate with my utility tractor. I have some pics of what we got out of it though. My wife pedals the goods and photographs. She has managed to find neighborhoods that aren't too far that have people that want just enough vegetables to justify my hobby. It breaks even if you don't count all the 'infrastructure'. I start most all of my seeds aside from things I only want one or two of like TAM Jalapenos. I buy those and odds and ends I get a wild hair for locally, or semi locally when I'm out and about. Also noted are my jalopy gators that have seen better days but get the work done.
