I've never tank hunted. I don't get it - like are you sitting there waiting and have you ever gotten a limit?
I always took it to mean you basically jump shoot ducks off the tank and once you do they're pretty much gone? So you're probably getting a couple at best? Which is a cool bonus for a dove lease, but I don't think that would scratch my "duck hunting itch" (getting out there, being in the blind, slinging the gear around, etc.)
Tank hunting is certainly different but as CS78 below said and SanAntoneAg showed, it can still be fruitful, if you've got the right conditions/right spot.
Yes, primarily most people tank hunting are just "jumping the tanks". Sneak up and shoot whatever is already out there and that's mostly it for the day. Works better when you've got multiple tanks across some close property(s) to hit up. That's most of my duck hunting these days.
But if you have a tank in a good spot, it can certainly be worth setting up in a blind with decoys and trying to get ducks to come in. I've also done that but the tanks I hunt arent as out in the open as they need to be where ducks can see them far away, so I mostly just jump them as opposed to setting up early in a blind. Best I've ever done is 4 birds in a single outing, but I'm not hunting premium placed water, just some family land that has stock tanks, so I take what I can get.
